I have kept up with Lost, Arrested Devlopment, Office, Heros, first couple of 24's,Rome, Soppranos, and 30 Rock.

What should I get?

Have heard of:
The Wire
Dexter
Weeds
Always sunny in Philly

Which is best?  What am I missing?

+1 on IASIP.  Also I have DirecTV and for most of November I was getting a bunch of Showtime channels free for no apparent reason and saw a bunch of episodes of Californication.  Then the Showtime channels went away and now no Californication =  :'(

If your question is really, "which is best", than there is no question that you should get The Wire.  Nothing else like it.  Just get it.

I guess the one caveat with it is that it really plays out like one 12-14 hour long (depending on the season) whole.  So don't be surprised if the first couple of episodes leave you all .

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

    I'm with Coco.
The Wire or Oz (you don't see as many wieners as you'd think). They're made by the same people with a similar cast.

Sunny if you're going for laughs.

And I can't believe this hasn't been suggested yet, but FREAKS AND GEEKS.

I watched one episode of Sunny after my Sister-in-law raved about it a while back, and I didn't even so much as smirk one time

Sunny is &@#%ing hilarious, if that's what you're going for.  If you want something serious, and you haven't already watched it, Prison Break is awesome too.

yeah, i'm with you on prison break, except that it reminds me of a giant, corn filled and steaming piece of crap that smells really really bad.

18 episodes hour long episodes of Freaks and Geeks would probably take you more than a day.  Unless you have nothing better to do than sit around listening to old eps of the Bone Zone.  Which I don't.

Never seen the Wire, but it's Obama's favorite show so it must be

I've heard good things about Mad Men recently.. thinking of checking out season 1.

Also if you haven't seen all 5 seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm, then you  :kugayfight:

Many suggestions in this thread that I will follow up on.  I have already seen the Deadwood series' (all very good), and Oz (loved them).

I am going to start with Sunny, 'cause that's the mood I am in, but move on to the Wire shortly after. I will still check out Californication (when it hits DVD), F&G, and Weeds.

Any others, 'cause winter is &@#%ing long.

Though white people have a natural aversion to television, there are some exceptions. For white people to like a TV show it helps if it is: critically acclaimed, low-rated, shown on premium cable, and available as a DVD box set.The latter is important so that white people can order it from Netflix and tell their friends “they are really into <insert series> and I watched ten episodes in a row in the weekend. I’m almost caught up.”

For the past three years, whenever you say “The Wire” white people are required to respond by saying “it’s the best show on television.” Try it the next time you see a white person! Though now they might say “it WAS the best show on television."

My 'gestions:
The Wire - The fact everyone's spooging over it aside, it truly does up to the hype.
Wonder Showzen - One of the funniest, most bizarre and overlooked shows I'd ever seen.
Dexter is damn good too

Always Sunny is OK. It has good jokes, but it's really frustrating to me because all the characters are stupid and lack reason. Plus they're all self centered, none of them are particularly likable.
