I am doing a little bit of personal research and I figure this is a good group of sports fans to ask the following:

Why are you a KSU (or if not insert fave team here) sports fan?

Is it the camaraderie of fellow supporters?  Something to pass the time?   The beauty of the game?

Why do we feel so good after a win we had very little to do with, and likewise feel so crapty after a loss that is not our fault?

I was thinking about "fandom" this morning and I realized that I probably understand very little about it when I scratch beneath the surface.

Why is it worth the hassle?  I have never had one of my teams win it all in my lifetime and likely never will.

I am feeling very existential this morning, must be the coffee... :users:

it's fun
A simple answer, but a pretty good one.

But why is it fun?  Chance to hang out and bullcrap with friends? (a large component of the fun for me)

tough question.  the answer is probably a lot of things.  imo being a fan allows us to compete by aligning ourselves with a team without actually participating in a particular sport or event- since most of us weren't ever good enough to at a high level and/or most of us are too old.  armchair quarterbacks wearing farve jerseys.  Most people like to compete because it gives us a chance to win, most people like to win because a) it gives us a sense of accomplishment, and b) it means we are better than someone else at something.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

If there were no fans, there would be no team.

    Sniff Sniff. . . I smell Heisman.
Because my fam. went to K-State games when I was growing up. They really didn't push me toward K-State or anything. I just grew to love them, prob. helped that it was in the DOD.
csourk is the best pre-college poster on this board.  way better than oxlp956

I really love sports, went to my first games in junior high/high school (DOD) and loved the atmosphere.  Always want to come back to Manhattan and relive the glory days of college.

male humans like to engage in social groups and compete with other groups of male humans.  it's biology.
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."
