Why not consider Larry Coker?

It's apparent that everyone here is fed up with current  the current head coach, me included, but I started to look into who was available at the end of this season to come here and coach. The one name that stood out the most that nobody has mentioned is Larry Coker.

Think about it he has mentioned several times that he wants to get back into coaching. In fact he has tried to get jobs at both SMU, who just gave him a courtesy call, and Tulsa, who basically already had the job filled as well. I say let that be their loss. Why can't he come here?

Here is a tidbit about Coker that may not be known:

Before the season of turmoil, in which he still finished .500 @ 6-6 Coker was 53-9 a winning percentage of .855. that ain't bad, in fact it was second only to Mack Brown.

He's played in 2 National championship games; winning one of them.

Coker's Miami offenses had led the Hurricanes to 27 wins against Top 25 opponents

Miami had a 7-2 bowl record, and his offenses have averaged 27.7 points and 394.3 yards total offense in those bowl games

Has lost just four bowl games during his 29 years as a coach

Winner of the 2001 Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Award

I mean just look at this guys resume how could he not be considered? And having ties to the mid-west, not to mention wanting to get back into coaching bad enough to apply @ SMU, a non BCS school, Kansas State and Coker would be perfect!

Okay yes some were Butch's recruits but having talent on a team does not win it alone. Behind every good team there is a good coach. It is apparent how important coaching is all of the time. Look at West Virginia this year, Denis Francheonie, Mike Sherman, ect..... The list can go on with teams that have went into the toilet when their coach leaves and a new one comes in. This guy is a proven winner in BIG games against BIG programs.
