There are 25-35 schools who frequently end up in the top twenty five in recruiting rankings. Most of those schools also fairly regularly populate the end of the year top twenty five rankings. Fact is, if you are averaging in the high two star to low three star averages your chances of finding a bunch of guys who can really play goes up dramatically. You still need good coaching [hello, ND], and there are also schools who fairly regularly end up in the top twenty five without highly ranked recruiting classes if they play in weak conferences [hello, Boise State]. However, if you think that pulling in a class of low ranked recruits gives you an even chance to compete for Big 12 division titles I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you.
