you are right. kansas has a very deep wrestling pool to choose from, but at a d1 level, with competition factored in of course, it will take some time to develop.  worth it though, imo.

as for Track, go ahead and check the credentials of the head coach, Cliff Rovelto. You DONT get rid of him or the program. He's the best coach at KSU and its not even close. The mens programs has been 2nd at the Big 12's in the past and is right now in the transition of becoming a "national" team rather than a conference team. Two yrs ago they were 11th at the NCAA's just missing a top 10 finish by one point. Keep in mind also that a mens track program has 12.6 scholly's.

Rovelto brings enormous amounts of cred to KSU, its just behind the scenes.

Finishing "almost in the Top 10" at the NCAA outdoor is like almost making the cut at the Masters.  Tons of guys get to say that every year, and tons of track teams get to say they almost finished in the Top 10 at the NCAA Outdoor meet.

I was on the 3rd place conference indoor team in '02. I believe the next season they finished 2nd. The '02 team finished 5th in the NCAA TEAM power rankings. The outdoor season sees teams in the south do better with the addition of the Javelin and some other factors.

Dont get me wrong, I have wondered myself why the team has performed at levels that appear sub par, but I have been told that more money is going to fewer athletes, and the athletes that are receiving scholly's are potential scorers at the NCAA meet.

Track should maybe be given a couple of more years to do something, since K-State actually has a little history, and had some world class talent come through over the years.   Hey, I was on the track team way back, but this complete inability to even challenge for a conference title is getting to be absurd. 

But baseball should get the ax immediately, it has hit its pinnacle, nice effort guys, but shut it down.  If you've been playing a sport for 100 years, and you've never once been in the competition that determines that sports ultimate champion, than the sports gods are sending you a clear signal.   

Move in the fences, and make TFS a women's softball facility. 

Start a wrestling program, I could see wrestling matches ultimately drawing 4-5-6,000 people.   A Lacrosse team would be exciting, it's a growing sport, and K-State could build a nice team IMO. 

It's time for a paradigm shift, why continue to throw money at sports who never, ever do anything, and nobody cares about??

maybe not to run in a circle, but i'd damn sure pay to see the High Jump crew that trains under coach Rovelto. 6 guys with a personal best of 7' 6" 1/2 or better. They are in the top 8 in the US and top 25 in the world. Go to a meet some time and who knows, you might be watching a medalist from a past Oly games or a future champion.

Oh yeah, how about that coaching staff? Three Olympians, two of them being among the greatest CLEAN athletes to ever walk this planet, in other two of the greatest ever! Tom Pappas is the only man to ever jump over 7' in the high jump, 17' in the pole vault, and 26' in the long jump in the SAME meet.

wrestling and softball are the two giant question marks in my head, in regards to why we do not already have them.  both would be successful.  kansas has strong wrestling ties as well as softball.  lacrosse is more of a dream, but def. one that i would love to see become a reality.  it is a very competitive sport that is easy for anyone to follow, even if they're not the biggest sports fans.  def. a revenue boon, and if it is a bust it would not be like the school was forced to put that much money into it anyways.

That's all well and good, but that's not a recipe for winning anything in track and field, particularly the real track and field season, which is the outdoor season.
