A guy on phog.net tried to tell me My Morning Jacket was a bluegrass band one time.

What a moron.  How awful would bluegrass sound with the amount of reverb that MMJ uses?

I haven't really listed to any new music for about five years.  I'm sort of binging on it right now.  Those two are new to me and a couple of my favorites.

Below is the cover art for a bluegrass CD I got years ago.  I always found it creepy that there is a guy with a knife facing a woman on the ground, clutching herself while the three musicians in the foreground carry on, business as usual.

They're indie rock.  I don't really know how to describe them beyond that.  If you've heard Death Cab for Cutie, Band of Horses is kind of in the same ballpark (but better, IMO).  They're also from Seattle and on Sub Pop records.

That looks like a Thomas Hart Benton painting.

Edit:  And, in fact, it is.  Guess where it is?  At the Spencer Museum at ku.  http://www2.ku.edu/~sma/collection/europeanamerican/benton.html  It's called "The Ballad of the Jealous Lover of" something or another.  http://www.spencerart.ku.edu/online/narrative/benton.html

Cool.  I had no idea.  I guess the harmonica player is Pollock.

love that type of crap, like keane, snow patrol, etc.  i'll have to check it out when i get out of western kansas  :yuck:.  you should check out marjorie fair (not a chick singer, it's the name of a band).  VERY, VERY, VERY good.  i have no idea why they aren't any more famous, they're not some obscure weird indie band like a lot of them out there.  let me know what you think of them.

I live in Seattle, and I keep hearing about this %#^&$%$ band.    I think I'll eventually need to listen to catch one of their shows.  They played at a freaking block party in Capitol Hill (Seattle) the other day.  A friend of mine tried to go, but it was sold out by the time he got there.
