Well, aTm hired one to secure DeAndre Jordan.  Arizona has Josh Pastner.  I'm sure there's a lot more out there, I just don't feel like looking real closely.

at any rate - tang was 'te before ´te was ´te.  and note - he's still with bu.  and still getting drew recruits.

But even Drew's squeaky-clean image took a hit when he hired Jerome Tang as an assistant coach. Tang, a former private high school and summer-league coach, is not popular with a number of Houston-area high school coaches. Tang also does not have a college degree.

FWIW, I would have no problem w/ Josh Pastner being our next head coach.

"As we traveled the summer basketball circuit with our team the Houston Hoops Josh would stay in the gym from morning until the end of games. He would study the players from teams around the country and his excitement was when he spotted a young man who he believed was going to be a great player that no one knew. He wrote scouting reports at the age of 13 or 14 and sent them out to college coaches writing about the players he would watch throughout the summer. At that time, college coaches were not allowed at most of the tournaments.

martin is 3-4 years away from leaving in the worst possible case scenario - so evaluating dickcheeses (great word) with aau connections is a much lower priority than bashing drew.

I am not surprised at all about our 08 recruiting.  Sure, it would've been nice to dream and have some top 100 DC Assault kid locked up, but there were a ton of unknowns going into this season.

1) Could Frank coach.  All competent recruits and parents knew why Frank was hired, I think its fair that most would want to see what he could do.  How much freedom would his stars get?  What kind of system?  How much success?  I think for the most part he's done well, but probably still some questions for some kids.

2) Sutton/Samuels.  No one knew if either one of these kids would make it.  It took until December to know for sure.

3) Beasley/Walker.  Of course we seem to be recruiting like they are gone, but nothing is certain now.  

4) Hoskins.  His injury and the question on if/when he can get a hardship leave another ship up in the air.

5) Bennett.  It looks like we're going to lose one scholarship b/c he left in bad academic standing.

It wasn't like we were going to get some kid to say "sure, I'm going to Kansas State if they have a scholarship for me.  They'll let me know in March or April."  That wasn't going to happen.  

So now we're at a place where we don't know for sure if we have any scholarships to give in April.  Technically right now we might have none to give.  We won't know until we find out for sure if Beasley or Walker are leaving.  Hoskins we might not know for a while after the signing period starts.  It seems pretty certain that we've lost a scholarship b/c of Bennett.  

Then there is the factor that if we've got a better shot at some better 09 kids, go after them.  I think if we can get WW we'll go for it, but some of these other borderline Top 150 kids we may be fine to wait another year.

i'm basing my objectivity off of what our ath dept has shown me they are willing to do.  the frank & 'te show didn't prove much to me.  neither did the huggs fwiw.

Billy Clyde took the biggest and best known "bag man" in d1 with him to Kentucky. They have the resources there to fill that bag and they will be getting some very high profile recruits. More than being an AAU coach, it's the $ that talks.
