I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but how about KSU immediately carving up MU's defense the moment they went zone?

It was borderline hilarious how much we slaughtered them...they couldn't afford to stay in it for any extended period of time, unless they wanted KSU to get layup after layup..  Great adjustments by Frank and staff....makes me feel a little better about facing the rest of the North the second time around.  He no doubt has made tweaks to face those junk defenses "Doc" was throwing at him.

Yeah, I can't wait to see what we have in store for NU's box in one/"foul Beasley all the time" defense.  I suppose a big part would be having some guys hit perimeter shots, Stew should help here.  I wouldn't mind Bill having one of his 4 for 9 from 3 games tomorrow.

Good post.  Especially of note is that they didn't try to beat the zone by simply shooting over the top of it.  I hate the notion that it the only way to beat a zone.

As for beating the "box and 1" post up Walker instead of Beasley, and run plays in which Beasley is moving to the ball rather than trying to move the ball to Beasley.  Make the "and 1" player have to run around through a boatload of screens.  They won't stay in it for long.

Not having Merriewether on the floor for 20 minutes should help, too.  I'd guess he'll start w/ the three guards again because CMW destroys KSU offensively.

Don't forget Gils!

No doubt though, we'll have a much better line-up offensively than we did last time against the Huskers.  I think they'll go with a similar plan though and try to make this game as ugly as possible.  They've got to keep us in the 60s to win and we've done that exactly 1 time this year, so the odds would seem to be against them.  Nebraska has scored in the 70s 3 times in Big 12 play, but one of those was in OT and 2 of those were losses.  If we defend at all, they will have a tough time getting into the 60s.

What SLTH Doc Sadler did last time could be more accurately described as Box On 1.  With four guys collapsing on Mike (including one who face guarded him for most of the game).  Give Doc credit, he knew he was seriously outmanned and had to throw everything at us.  Give KSU credit for handling all of it with relative ease in that game.

I agree with the earlier statement that Frank and Co. made great adjustments against MU the second time around and I hope that continues tomorrow night.  Last year's loss @NU was really the one that kept us out of the NCAAs in my opinion and this year staying in the hunt for the Big 12 regular season title could be riding on it.

This next 11 days are unbelievably important for not only our B12 title hopes but seeding in the NCAAs.

If KSU doesnt pull one its it patented (as of late at least) play no defense whatsoever on the road they should be able to handle the 'skers with ease. Frank will have something in store on offense, and the 3 guard line-up+gilbert off the bench should be nails vs nu's 1 giant and 4 midget line-up.

BW goes off for 20+ in this one.

Maric would've gone for 50 against MU.  God, it would be refreshing to watch a KSU basketball team that wasn't made up of a bunch of pansies.

Sadler is going to spring a huge surprise on us when he pulls a RS and unleashes the beast PF that will shut down the Beasley/Walker show:

I don't understand how pullen does it but he consistantly beats guys off the dribble and gets into the lane, he can hit that 10-12 foot pull-up very well too, and or finish if the pass isn't there.  He doesn't look extremely quick or fast with the ball, but he's always beating guys.

The biggest thing is he's learning when to pull up and when to go to the rim.  He's had a couple games where he tries to go to the rim too much and backside defenders block his shot.  If he can consistently hit that pull-up 10-15 footer he's going to be very dangerous.

And when to throw it up for Beasley to bring down.

Along with that is learning how to avoid charging the help defender.

Good point, early in the year, he tried to take it to the hole nearly every time and he'd dribble into the baseline or throw up an impossible shot.  He goes in looking to dish and if they step up late he's done a good job of putting up the shot, i figure with beasly down there he either makes it or beas has a great second chance opp.  Notice pullen will drive the opposite side of the lane from the block that beas is on.  Beas is alreay in position for the weakside board.
