anyone in Manhattan using an HDTV atenna?

Just got a 32" LCD HDTV (1080i) for Christmas . Anyone having success using an antenna in Manhattan? If so what antenna are you using and what are you picking up?

To get HDTV that's not really HDTV...no thanks. Cox really compresses there HDTV packets...even more than satellite. Also, don't I have to pay Cox for Digital cable and the extra $5 for the HDTV receiver?

Lol, you're wanting to use an HD antenna 40 minutes from any broadcaster. Cox has mediocre HD selection, but they broadcast in full 1080i. Compression doesn't determine resolution. It determines quality.

Antenna < Cable < Satellite for HD.  HD is pretty much HD.  Some sources look better than others, but what you really want is the programming. The best place to get that is Satellite.  I have Dish--I had Comcast, and the only thing I miss is PBS.  I was unable to pick up PBS OTA in HD (they have a digital signal, but load it up with alternate content instead of HD.)  I'm just outside of the Denver metro, and we have some land issues on the top of the mountain that's preventing us from getting good HD signals.  The only one I could reliably pick up was Fox.  I decided the antenna wasn't worth it until the broadcasting antenna issue is worked out.

Update: I hooked up the TV and its built in tuner is getting several digital channels and most of what Cox offers in HD. All of these without a box from Cox or an antenna, or without upgrading to digital cable from Cox....suckers.

I live in an apartment, so I can't get DirecTV or Dish. I'll have to settle for getting the KC CBS feed in HD. COX will have to supply the KC feed in HD if the don't reach an agreement w/ WIBW, it's mandated by the FCC. I'll just have to hope for the best come tourney time.

Actually I have Cox standard, so I get everything I can trough that in HD. I would have to pay for Cox Digital plus the extra charge to get all of those channels in HD. I hate Cox, they are greatly over priced, so I'm not going to give them any more cash.

I hate Cox, too. Although their customer service has improved quite a bit. They're actually willing to believe someone who says the internet in their neighborhood sucks.

I did the same thing in the wichita area.  cox guy said they are not allowed to block the local HD stations, so if your tv has a digital tuner you can get them for free.  My dad was able to do the same when he bought a new tv a few weeks ago.

 Will always own baby dish in quality.  Real HD with true HD.  dishtv and cable = ripoff with compression.
