Beau Arndt, 19, of Americus was killed this morning as he and a friend were hunting fowl on property in northwest Lyon County.

Lyon County sheriff's deputies worked the scene and have not yet released a statement.

According to information from friends of the families involved, Arndt was hunting with a friend on land near Roads 310 and D. They were hunting fowl with shotguns and had deployed decoys.

The initial, unconfirmed report said that the shot, which apparently was from a rifle, came from an old pickup truck that was passing by on the roadway. The truck was described as either red or orange. .

Arndt graduated from Northern Heights High School in May.

This is my first cousin and a very sad story, a great kid that was quiet and shy but could always lighten the mood, He is survived by both parents and a younger sister and brother, I hope you all keep them in your prayers and for you hunters out there practice saftey and don't do anything stupid and uncalled for like the idiot that toke my cousins young life did. He finished his last final of his first semester at ESU on Friday and had a birthday coming up on Tuesday I believe (if not Monday or Wednesday). Thanks for your time thoughts and prayers.

I've never hunted (and look down @ people who do so) but how the frack do you mistakingly shoot someone?

Terrible. When you said he just finished his finals of his 1st semester it really hit home.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

there were 3 total hunters and they had decoys out and they were all 3 in individual layout blinds, some pochers(sp) drove by and thinking the decoys were real geese shot out of there truck from the road twice, realizing they were only decoys since the geese did not get up. they fled the scene to avoid trouble assuming hunters were present.

there are many many illegal things they did here. 1) shooting from the road 2) shooting out of a vehicle 3) shooting on land w/out permission 4) using a rifle on geese is illegal 5) shooting at fowl on the ground and not airborne and the obvious 6) murder.

Wow.  I hadn't heard that poaching was involved and assumed it was some sort of accident.  Sorry to hear about the loss and I hope they find the idiots that did it.

condolences, hope they catch the guys.

this isn't as bad as the farmer in clay county a few years back. he tried to stop some deer poachers from leaving one of his fields and they just shanked him.

poachers give all hunters a bad name.

My thoughts and prayers with the entire family.    Actually had a dipcrap fire a shot at my goose decoy spread one morning.  Luckily it hit a center pivot that was between us and him.

And lets not turn this into an anti hunting/pro hunting discussion.  Keep your opinions on that subject to yourself... completely disrespectful.

excellent point - I dont hunt, but that isn't the point. the IDIOT backwoods A Hole in the truck is the point. Why young life is taken is beyond me. Know that I am feeling for you!

i heard it was done by a couple meth heads.

and how dumb do you have to be to poach geese when you are 57 years old? i think i grew out of any desire to do that when i was like 14.

Do you use the same philosophy when choosing whether to drive to school or work?

Beyond a torn pair of pants from snagging it on a barbed wire fence, I have never had anything bad happen.

don't let the actions of a few dumb hunters ruin it for everyone.

I hunt. I enjoy it,. , but I never hunt with someone I don't trust holding a firearm...and that list is slim.
