I think the bottom line is we were dominated in the trenches.  Their defense was in our backfield all day long and their O-line was knocking us off the ball and preventing us from getting to Reesing.

Sucks, but that's how it goes.

Other things I wasn't happy with:
-Missed tackles by linebackers (wtf reggie?)
-Missed assignments by linebackers (wtf smoke?  this one allowed an easy TD for ku)
-Vanilla playcalling offensively..We did take one shot down the field, and the result was 6.  Jordy burned Talib for the score.
-Short passes on 3rd and long..bad idea James.  Bad idea.

Mangino definitely took advantage of his extra time off to prepare for us.  He knew our team very well.  They outplayed us and deserved to win.

Defensively ku had good push.  I will agree with you that ku won this game in the trenches despite a couple of attempts to give it right back.  However, early on I felt like KSU rolling the pocket from side to side was doing a pretty good job of negating our pass rush, but then they stopped.  Not to take anything away from my hawks, but I think if KSU had continued to roll the pocket this game may have turned out differently.

Very nice thoughts. Recruiting need? Ummm O Linemen... AGAIN!!! Let me tell you this - if this is OCJF's best shot at preparation following a big game, he needs to be ran out of KS.

Shenlong, good point - there are many things that we do once in a fracking blue moon that many good teams do regularily with success - perhaps we should go with what works for us... ala throwing to Jordy deep.

I didn't think it was nearly as bad as last year.

I thought we looked pretty slow on defense compared to last week.  I guess it could be that ku's offense played faster than Texas.  Or it could have been that I was drinking heavily throughout.

I dont know if running jordy vertical all the time is the answer.  Hes a very good receiver, and he could be used well as a decoy too.  Too many people stress running the ball first to open up your passing.  I believe in todays age of football your better served to reverse that.  KSU did nothing to get kus defenders away from the line.  2 and 3 yard passes arent going to create space for your running game.  I know the general idea behind that is to get the ball to a playmaker and give them a chance to make a play, but I liken it to the Chiefs of this year.  It doesnt matter how much talent you do or dont have at the tailback position,  If you dont throw the ball down the field your not going to create space.  I know I am beating a dead horse here with my contingency that KSU should have kept rolling the pocket, but they couldve gotten some misdirection runs out of that gameplan and possibly caught us offguard.

True, however last year was a 3 touchdown spread.

If ku's recievers could catch it would have been every bit as bad as last year.  We got pwned at home and that is a very depressing thought.

Agree with that Rusty. O-Line wasn't horrible.

Your Oline played pretty good I thought.  With the exception of McClinton, they blocked pretty well.  We had quite a few blitzes that you guys picked up really well.  McClinton was just a beast.

Mangina, although seemingly worthless and retarded looking - can figure out when we throw a vanilla offense at him. I cant beleive that we didn't lose by more. Am I the only one who saw this coming in 2005 when we won that real low scoring game in manhattan? Hindsight = 20/20

No running  room on key possesions.

You had no running room because your OC did absolutely nothing to get our guys off the LOS.

What we saw today is what happens when you play a good team (ku is good, better than I thought) with a philosophy of making plays with defense and special teams with a ball control offense.  We really only got one significant play from the defense to set up the offense and nothing significant from special teams.  On top of that our offense made too many errors, especially when they were put into position where they had to make plays. With our offense right now consistenting of max protection with only 2 or 3 guys out on routes and a running game that must be set up by the pass we must have more plays made by our defense and special teams.  Today we didn't get it done and we won't win many games against solid competition without it.  Props to ku, they withstood the early pressure we put on by not allowing us to take advantage of great field position in the first quarter and were able to play from behind twice.  Once they got the lead and established control of the line of scrimmage we were going to need several big plays to win the game.  We didn't get them.

Props to ku for being a major reason we weren't getting it done, Mangino has done a nice job with that program and they may be poised for a breakout season, as much as it hurts me to say that.
