It's called being realistic and making educated assumptions.

Assumption #1 -- Miami, OU and UT will continue to field very good teams for the next 5 years.

Assumption #2 -- KSU will improve from where we are right now during the next 5 years.

Pretty simple, and very logical.

Let the longhorns run away from Miami, the upside for KSU far outweighs the downside.

While I like to think that your assumption #2 has merit, it has nothing of fact on which to draw that assumption.

Assumption #1 - I'm ok with UO and UM, but UT will go backward unless they can win the NC every year.   VY is gone, Mack is still there.

lets be slightly realistic here.  kstate is years away from a national championship so i dont think that playing miami in a couple of years is going to hurt that goal.  by playing miami i think we will help our standing with possible recruits hopefully leading to better recruits so we can compete for a national championship.  in my view by playing miami we are helping our chances at a national title while not hurting our chances at a bowl game or even BCS bowl game.

Sheesh, that seems to be a pretty accurate statement, and that's horribly depressing.  I remember when we were a player or an injury or a turnover away from a national championship, instead of years away.  It wasn't all that long ago, either.

How do you figure?  You're saying that playing miami will get us recruits that we would not get by playing, oh, in the Big 12 say?  Or playing Louisville, or Georgia, or Cal, or .....insert any decent, not dominant, team?

You think we are going to win both years, or one, or none?  If we lose it hurts our chances for a bowl, this cannot be argued, at least I can't imagine how.  What if we've got another OOC game with a Louisville, or Marshall, or any other who very likely might win against us on any given day, and now we've got two losses out of the gates?  Upside?

What about the injuries that those big mutha's are going to give our big mutha's?  I don't think we can afford to play that speed and size for an OOC, we'll get it during the Big 12 enough.  Win the Big 12, get the recruits and bonus.  Stay away from losses in the OOC.  IMO and Snyder's opinion.  Prince best be right to change it.

they play better ball than the ACC and FSU did quite well with that logic.  Their only game was with Miami, the rest were our OOC.

The ACC had 25 players taken on the first day of the draft, including 12 first round picks.

They smoked every other conference on draft day.

Wildcats versus Hurricanes?

It's going to happen twice as Kansas State Senior Associate Athletics Director Jim Epps has confirmed that Kansas State and Miami of Florida will play in a home-and-home football series in 2011 and 2012.

The game will be played at the Orange Bowl on Sept. 24, 2011, and at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on Sept. 8, 2012.

"It's an agreement in principle at this point, but we'll be putting the contract together in the next week," Epps said.

Miami of Florida, which KSU has never played before, won't be the only "name" school that the Wildcats will be playing in the years to come as Epps said he's been in conversation with top-half programs from the SEC, ACC, Pac-10 and Big 10 Conferences.

"Ron (Prince) wants to have one marquee game on the schedule every year," Epps said. "That could also include teams from the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA. He's been very open-minded about playing the best schools out there."

In each case, Epps said Kansas State is only considering a home-and-home contract.

What Epps has found in contacting a higher caliber opponent than in the past is that schools are scheduling games six to eight years in advance.

"Some of these schools are already booked into the early-teens," Epps said. "Trying to find an opponent from major conferences for only two years down the road is not easy. You have to get them when you can."

Future KSU Games

2007 — San Jose, Sept. 8; at Fresno State, Sept. 22

2008 — Louisiana-Lafayette, Aug. 30; Fresno State, Sept. 9

2011 — at Miami of Florida, Sept. 24

2012 — Miami of Florida, Sept. 8

the only thing it hurts about our bowl chances is the one win and if we are struggling to get 6 wins by the time we play miami prince wont be coach here anymore.  it helps the chances of getting to a BCS bowl without winning the big 12 even if we lose.  kids enjoy playing tough competition and why is playing miami any worse than playing georgia?  besides if we lose to marshall or louisville it hurts more than losing to miami because of the different perceptions of miami versus those schools.  playing better competition makes you a better team for when the conference season rolls around.  this philosophy hasnt really hurt colorado's chances at all recently seeing as how they are the only other team besides us to ever win the big 12 north.

amen.  Lets see where RP takes us in '06-'10 first.  We'll have about forgotten about this schedule thing by this time next year.

I believe it was a pass to the tight end on that 4th and 1 play.
