From Nebraska beat writer Steve Sipple of the Lincoln Journal Star:

"...it’s impossible to convince me that Nebraska isn’t a program on the rise.

"Nebraska, athlete for athlete, is beginning to resemble Husker outfits of the glory days, especially the horses in this year’s offensive line... Nebraska once again has linemen that intimidate."

_ _ _

"This is about progress. And if you can’t see progress at NU at this moment, you’re not paying attention."

_ _ _

"[Callahan's] demeanor at the moment is one of quiet confidence. I’m guessing his best coaching days are ahead."

_ _ _

"Indeed, the team’s veteran players seem upbeat, confident and determined, and the newcomers seem to be as impressive as humans as they are athletes.

"The program’s renewed energy and growing sense of stability are palpable."

I was happy to read his take too, but why post it here? It is almost impossible to defend because the progress of the program is going to be measured on wins, not the opinions of sports writers.

"These guys really suck."

"Cornhusker fans are really gay."

"Their Offensive linemen are basically fat cows."

"There is a quote button above this box."

I still want my cooler, bitches!

Talent alone will make sure we're in the Big 12 title game every year with a shot at the BCS. Most Kansas State fans think they're on a level playing field with the amount of talent they have on their roster compared to Nebraska. It just isn't so.

Another thing to consider. Sportswriters like Sipple that cover the team on a year round basis, as a career, probably have a better grasp of what's occurring in the program than 99% of fans. His opinion needs to be respected and valued. He's covered Nebraska for 15 years and 11 as the beat writer. He's seen Nebraska at their best in the mid-90s and at their worst in the early 2000s and through this change. The man knows what he's talking about.

I do respect and value Sipple's opinion for those very reasons. Thus, I was very happy to read his views this morning. However, bringing them to fans of another team to talk trash is ineffective. It's like saying, "Hey, check us out. We've struggled against the top competition the last few years, but this sports writer thinks we're going to be good in the future."

What he wrote should have given you quiet confidence, not ammo.

Piss off dude. Kansas State thought they were bad apples when they kicked sand in our face with Solich at the helm. And now its payback time and I'm just getting started on the ammo.

The writers up in Lincoln are homers too.

NU just lost 5 games w/ a defense which fielded a lot of veterans and 3 of which were in the front 7 going high in the draft.

Please stop the nonsense.

Great. Come back when you actually have something. Talking trash about something your team might do in the future is lame.  :poundon:

Lets see-USC on the road; Texas in the last 30 seconds (with their QB actually playing, not a backup); Auburn (beat Florida); Oklahoma (outgained them in total yardage); and a hangover loss to Oklahoma State on the road. The Oklahoma State game BTW was one that almost every Nebraska fan correctly predicted before the season started. Yeah, I'm guessing there would be a lot of teams that would go unscathed with that schedule.

They are all LOSSES!!

And big time BS on the Oklahoma State.  I specifically remember going to the husker scout site and warning them that Okie Lite had the best offense in the Big 12....all I heard was about how Nubb fans had absolutely no concerns.  I"m talking dozens of posters.  So don't act like NU fans "knew before the season"...plenty of NU fans thought they were going to take USC before the season....NU fans as a whole are the most unrealistic bunch on the internet.

Oh dear god.  This is great stuff.

Now I know who Steve Sipple is and he's a HUGE Husker homer and fan.

I looked him up and I remember him from all of those interviews when Nubb was firing Solich.

I specifically remember him because he said something hysterically entertaining...he had said that he felt at the time Solich shouldn't be fired because he believed that Nebraska had the talent on hand to compete for national title w/ in 2 years.  Seriously...I'm sure it's in ESPN files somewhere that fatty could find.  It was on that one show "Outside the Lines"...same show I believe where they interviewed Evridge, the husker commit who changed his mind.  Trev Alberts was another guest on there talking about current NU stuff.

But Sipple is nothing more than a fan who writes pieces.

He thought in '03 when Solich was fired that Nebraska was ready to play for a national title in a few years w/ the talent on hand....need I say more about who wrote this stuff?

OSU was a classic trap game-it became even more apparent we were going to have trouble after the way we lost the Texas game. And I'll say this-if Zac Bowman wasn't injured last year, this is all irrelevant because Nebraska wins the Big 12 title if he's healthy.

Yes, but all Nebraska homers should be respected.

Sipple isn't even from Nebraska. He has no loyalty to the staff or program. And he's always been realistic about what's happening whether it was good or bad. He has seen the Nebraska teams of the mid 90s and knows what kind of talent was on those teams. And he knows what kind of talent is on this team because he sees the players everyday. Nice spin Hatter! Don't let the reality of the situation clog your peabrain!

keep trying.  Fatty will locate and find that video and it will be shown to you.

I really don't care where Sipple is from but he's an NU homer.  It's pure and simple.

I have no reason to remember him other than that comment because I remember falling out of my chair laughing type of funny stuff...it's stuff like that you just don't forget and I remember the face who said it.

What happened to Slashahan's team when NU went to Lawrence the last time?

You were their superbowl that year..

last year it was us.

The Jayhawks don't care about bowls as long as they get a feel good conference win.

I'd ask you but it appears you're too busy posing as a Nebraska fan and greasing up your K State buddies.

Hey, I tried to warn you at the beginning of this thread that you were setting yourself up. I think our program is bound for better times again, and many things other fans said and did to us during the Solich era pissed me off too, but for god sakes wait for us to do something on the field if you absolutely must talk trash.

Talent alone will make sure we're in the Big 12 title game every year with a shot at the BCS.

And coaching alone will make sure you fail to do anything significant.  I'm not really worried about the order being restored until Nebraska hires a better coach and he has at least 3 years of solid athletes.

The comments posted above do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of FBWillie

And next year, what will your excuse be. When the "Callahan can't coach" stuff is put to rest, I can guarantee you that the next thing we hear from the mouths of K State fans is "Well he's going to go back to the NFL anyways." GUARANTEED.

I should create a web page of opposing fans predictions to see how well you see in the future.

Maxell.  S Parker has the respect of KSU fans because he's not just a trash talker.  He just calls it as he sees things.  In short...he's not a blind homer.

He has many positive things to say about the NU program.  He likes the talent and direction of the program.  He also will comment if he sees faults.

But he practices objectivity and is one of the few husker fans who may just admit KSU might, just might have a few players too and that Prince might, just might have a clue of what he's doing.

Nobody has an idea definitively..it's all speculation based on what we believe to be evidence or whatever...but S. Parker is about the most objective person you will find on this boad be it corn or wildcat fan.
