Ever curious about how Chris "Smoke" Patterson came by the nickname? Here's his explanation:

"It all came about by me being little, running outside when I was growing up in Chicago. There weren't too many places, too many open fields or grass to play football. I grew up playing in the parking lot. That's how I grew up. When you got tackled, you really scraped yourself up. We were just playing around. We always raced and the black dust was kicking up. Someone said, 'Man, he's smoking.' It just stuck."

The nickname is tattooed on his arm, but it's a nickname he's trying to shed.

"Some people take it the wrong way," he said. "Please, write it. Let people know."

His transition, by the way, has gone smoothly. Watts singled out Patterson as a "really good athlete."

Ha right, Chris.  When you look like this:

and your nickname is "Smoke", I think we get the idea.

Those tattooed nicknames are some of the hardest to shed.

LOL.  Do you think he just shot from the hip and came up with that on the spot?  Chandler should respond by explaining he has bloodshot eyes because of an allergic reaction to catfish.

Disappointing story.  Not nearly as intriguing as the Taco legend.

I bet he called the reporter a "pancake eating muh fuh" at one point in the interview.
