You can't be racist and like basketball.
Listed in order of my preference.  I don't think all these guys are candidates, they're just examples.

1) The Home Run:  Builds on momentum built by Huggs and takes it to the next level.  Major BCS success.  May have the clout to keep a majority of the recruiting class.  Think:  Kruger, Montgomery, Crean, Few, Majerus.  ODDS:  <5%

2)  The ladder climber  Think Bill Self 7 or 8 years ago.  They want to win big and get an elite job.  Probably lose the current class and bring in a mid-major signee from their current school.  Chris Lowery or Gregg Marshall may fall into this category.  ODDS: 15%

3a)  The Desperation Hire:  Dalonte Hill or Frank Martin.  Desperate.  Disasterous.  Dana Altman-esque.  MAY keep some of the recruiting class.  ODDS:  35%

3b)  The Lifer:  Wooly was the ultimate lifer.  He would have stayed at KSU until he died if we'd let him.  No chance of saving anyone in the recruiting class.  Not sure who falls into this category because I probably haven't heard of him yet.  Steve Henson might be like that.  ODDS:  45%

I say go for another home run.  Why the &@#% not?

I don't trust you.   You're pretty much worthless when it comes to this stuff.

Chris Lowery
His teams play amazing "hacking" defense, seems to have gotten quality players at a mid major

Majerus?? LMAO.

At this point we just need to do our best to keep wlo grcoat.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Crean would kick ass.

This is a little 'out there' and he may be in the Ladder hire (again) but what do you think about Matt Doherty?  I realize he's at SMU now.  I think he's got to have the drive to succeed after what transpired at in Chapel Hill.

But I dunno... I'm still kind of wonderstruck over the current situation to be able to think of candidates.

    Fear the Brick
Hire the head coach that would keep Dalonte as an assistant; it should be part of the interview criteria.  All the recruits really matter (Beasley, Sutton, Pullen) are tied to Hill and have said so.

I have a massive inferiority complex and don't think Crean would come at all.  Henson is what I refer to as a "580 WIBW" pick which is to say it's retarded for any reasonable person to think he would be remotely qualified.

I'd say Grant from VCU, Lowery (although he just got done signing an extension), and Greg Marhall (who i believed lobbied for the job last year) would be my top 3 in that order.

Martin would be a 2 year stop gap, although as long as he had Dalonte as an assistant for an extended period of time (like 5 years) he might at least get some good talent in.  For some reason I'm thinking he wouldn't be a complete disaster, just a small one.  Now, Dalonte as head coach, would mean we'd just have to enjoy every minute of next season because it would be the last.

I hoping we're going for the home run, but expecting us to over-swing and foul out to the catcher.... :-[

I agree with the top two. Those are the only two I would take if it meant a grcoatless team.

The thing is, those two have the cred to salvage grcoat.

Does Montgomery have cred?  I'm not sure if the current players really know anything about him.  Pretty much whatever coach it is, just hire Dalonte and you can get off to a good start and after one year the team will be primarily all your players anyways.

why do people want montgomery so bad?  if kstate hires him or lowry i will be pissed off.  lowry doesnt know what an offense is.  his teams know how to play D and can beat anybody on any night b/c of it but to be a consistently successful team in the big 12 you have to have some kind of an offense and lowry has never, NEVER, had one.  besides the fact that he was bruce webers assistant and will probably become at best what bruce weber is at illinois but his ceiling likely isnt that high b/c it was webers system that made him successful to begin with.

I don't know...maybe because he's been to a little thing called the
FINAL FOUR.

Maybe you've heard of it.

one final four?  thats not impressive enough to be #1 on our wish list, imo.  he was successful at stanford in a weak pac-10.  maybe its b/c i hate stanford/california in general.  but there has to be a better option.  besides hes really old.  do you think he can still recruit and compete?

Rick Majerus has previously turned better jobs down.  My guess is he will never coach again w/ all of his health issues.  Besides, after taking a job and then changing his mind the next day, would you even want to deal w/ that after this?

As for Crean, Montgomery, or Few, I assume that is a fish.  They are untouchable as far as Kstate is concerned.

Lon Kruger- I have no idea.  Certainly he could do much better than Kstate by just staying at UNLV and waiting but it's anybody's guess what he is thinking and he is an alum, but still probably long odds.

I would start w/ a Chris Lower/Greg Marshall type and go from there assuming Kruger turns you down first.

by the way it took kevin stallings quite a while to be real successful at vandy too.  i remember him from when he was at illinois state and always thought hed be a good coach somewhere.  the vandy job was such a crappy job when he took it and it honestly still is.  not sure id be happy with him as the coach though.  honestly im not sure ill be happy with anybody.

hes 60.  i want someone who isnt 60 years old and only been to one final four.  id rather have a young guy who is an up and comer than a way over the hill californian who consistently underachieved with his teams.

Bob Knight was over 60 when he was hired.

I don't think you realize how difficult it is to recruit to Stanford.

Ig MM could retain the recruits (presumably with our assistant coaches), then I don't care if he's 85 y.o.  KSU doesn't need a guy who may stay 10 years.

Montgomery's a winner.
