No.  It doesn't.  In 98 we were on the cusp of playing for a national championship.  Today we had potential to be an elite eight team.  BIG diference.

 1998 was about 230,000 times worse. This doesn't even compare. We were on the cusp of playing for a national championship in Football. In Football for christ sakes! 98 still makes me sick to this day, and always will.

This can be fixed.

I don't know, there's no guarantee that we win that National Championship game or even that we get into it in 98.  I don't remember how the ranking would have fallen. 

What I know about this situation is that Huggins was bringing in major support from major corporations (Nike / Jumpman) while at the same time in the process of building a solid program.  That now is gone.

BBall Program Over the span of many years > Possibly playing in a national championship football game = greater hurt.  IMO

'98 was the worst day of my life.  This is a close second.  Both suck incredibly, but blowing the opportunity to play for a National Championship is a little more disappointing than the destruction of our basketball program from above-average-ness, where we are now.

Definitely has to be '98, today is not even close in comparison to that blowing the chance to play for the national championship and to get shafted the next day by going all the way to the Alamo Bowl??? I agree that I think that this can be repaired, '98 cannot.

There was a guarantee that we would have gotten into that game because UCLA lost while K-State was still playing.  Even after we lost we still finished third in the BCS.  No way Florida State would have jumped us had we won that game.  I remember calling for hotel reservations in Arizona the minute I knew UCLA lost.  The memory is painful.

seeing how UCLA and i believe tennessee both lost we would have been in the national championship without a problem.  im glad i didnt realize at the time just how bad the loss was in '98.  i thought we'd have chances like that again.  i realize right now we dont have the chance to land a "huggins" again in basketball.  to me this hurts a lot worse only for that reason.

98 was worse!  Its been 3 days and I'm feeling okay, 3 days after the aTm loss I still felt like I was going to throw up.  As a matter of fact just thinking about Parker getting into the endzone makes me want to ralph  !

emotionally '98 was much, much worse.

However, if you measure it by long term effects on the program I think Kruger leaving was the worst.  That started our crapty run in basketball.

Being stabbed in the back by "he-who-shall-not-be-named" could be devestating if we lose the recuiting class.  If we manage to keep them and the new coaching staff is successful we may still be able to salvage teh BB program.  It may take a little longer but the new guys have the recruiting connection to make us successfuly.  We shall see.
