I don't understand the bitching.  It works out great for you being able to face the team that is on the bubble with you.  It would be a lot worse if you were on opposite sides of the bracket.

K-state is in a great spot.  All you have to do is win one game and you are in the tourney.  A huge accomplishment in Huggs first year.  I'll admit I didn't expect it.

I guess to further explain my argument, put yourself in Texas Tech fans shoes.  IF (which I don't think will happen) Texas Tech beats you in the tournament do you really believe you should still be selected over them?

I'm still not convinced.

I don't have a problem with Tech being selected over us.

I have a problem with the inflation of the Mountain West and Colonial Leagues and teams like Air Force and Old Dominion possibly being selected over us.

I agree, though...just beat Tech.

Agreed.  I don't know what they did to tweak the RPI, but they &@#%ed it up something horrible.

Yup, pretty much agree, we take care of Tech and earn the right to get in.  This really is a non-issue.

The Mountain West (as a whole) has 5 OOC wins against the top 50.

Air Force over #40 Tech
UNLV over #40 Tech and #19 Nevada
Utah over #43 Virginia and #26 Washington State

I think they put more weight on the OOC.  I'm pretty sure the conference used to be weighted a bit more, so as the stronger conferences played each other it further boosted their RPIs.  Now the OOC carries more weight so non-BCS teams that go out and schedule fairly tough get a big boost.  Then they carry that into their leagues and their leagues are boosted as they start playing each other.  Meanwhile, the BCS schools usually don't schedule as difficult and carry that into their leagues.  That tweak from a couple years ago really has helped out those non-BCS teams that schedule decent in the OOC and its carried over probably more than the NCAA anticipated.

All that said, I agree with the main point of the thread; beat Tech and look forward to Madness, lose and look forward to more home games.

I guess this is where the disconnect is.  I don't see anyway that the big XII deserves 5 out of its 12 teams in the tournament this year.  It just wasn't a very good league (Colorado, Baylor, Nebraska, Iowa State all REALLY bad.)  4 out of 12 seems right to me.

Before you jump down my throat re: Kansas #1 seed.  I think we have work to do in the Big XII tourney before we can expect that (I would guess getting into the champ game will do it.)

Does anyone else see the humor in a ku fan telling us we need to beat Tech to "earn it"?  How did you guys do against Tech?

Kansas Big 12 Losses:  Texas Tech & Texas A&M, other than that just beat up on the Big 12 North (us included unfortunately), but they expect a #1 Seed?  Also beat the same USC team we did.  Sorry for talking about Kansas, but this is ridiculous.

SkiLift you may want to look into a game that ku played in Vegas earlier this year.

I already said that ku needs to get to the championship of the big XII tourney to earn a #1 seed.

Then Vandy and Tennessee also deserve #1 seeds.

I think you're vastly underestimating the Big XII.  ku should get a #1 seed almost automatically at this point, barring a loss to a 'bad' team.  Losing to A&M or UT isn't something that should knock them out of this position.

This is the same reason the Big XII deserves 5 bids.

Vastly underestimating the B12?
Pomeroy has the B12 5th behind ACC, SEC, B10 and BE.
Where do you think they fit?

I said they need to get to the championship game.  So yes, a 29-4 team who is 10-0 in their last 10 who just beat OU and likely K-state or Texas Tech...deserves a 1 seed.

Right.  Overlooked the championship game part.  I'd agree.

Behind the ACC, SEC, BE, ahead of the Big 10 and Pac 10.

Yes, I'd put A&M, UT, and ku against tOSU or Wiscy any day.

And I'd put Tech/KSU against Indiana any day.  (Holy crap that'd be a fun game to watch, Indiana vs Bob Knight.)

I'm afraid that if KSU can't get a bid over TT because the Big 12 North is weak, even though we have a better conference and overall record, then ku's quest for a #1 seed is doomed because they are behind A&M.  Tech beat us on our home court, A&M beat ku on their home court.  Tech finished one game behind us, A&M finished one game behind ku.  We had some bad OOC losses, ku had some bad OOC losses.  I'm not arguing that ku doesn't deserve to be in the tourney, just that, relatively speaking, their argument for a #1 vs. A&M is similar for our argument for a berth vs. TT...and all the prognosticators say we have lost this battle...seemingly even if we beat them Friday.

I thought the USC they beat was University of South Carolina; not the one we beat.
