HIGH SCHOOL NEWSWATCH
Injury doesn't slow interest in Thomas

Friday, January 12, 2007
From staff reports
The bad news is that Shaw's Red Ball Express will roll the rest of the season without its star boys basketball player.

But the good news is point guard William Thomas, who broke his left leg Jan. 2 at practice, is expected to make a full re covery.

Thomas slid into an en trance door at the end of a wind sprint and broke his leg between the ankle and knee, coach Leon Hines said.

Hines said the mishap hasn't dissuaded college coaches from courting the 6-5, 200-pound senior, who was averaging 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

"Coaches at Kansas State, Seton Hall, Louisville and Ohio University are aware of the injury, but they're still interested in recruiting William," Hines said. "They know he's a very special player."

Thomas should begin rehabilitation in about two months once the cast is removed.

"I'm not stressed, it's just a bump in the road," said Thomas, who added he is leaning toward Ohio University. "Life is all about learning and dealing with stuff. I'll get through this."
