The Cougars are 6-1 with a win over San Diego at the Great Alaska Shootout (a tournament that they won) and a loss at Gonzaga. The Cougars return 2 starters from a squad that posted a 17-16 overall record, including a 8-10 mark in Pac 10 play, in 2008-09. The Cougars are projected to challenge UCLA for the Pac 10 championship.

The Cougars are lead by G's Klay Thompson and Reggie Moore and F DeAngelo Casto. Thompson is averaging 26 points/game (leads the team), 5 rebounds/game and 3 assists/game. All he did last season was start all 33 games, lead the team in 3-point percentage and free-throw percentage and finish second on the team in rebounding, assists and steals (0.9). Moore averages 13 points/game, 3 rebounds/game and 4 assists/game (leads the team). The Washington native is a pass-first type who brings a lot of athleticism and quickness. Casto averages 12 points/game and 6 rebounds/game (leads the team). He underwent surgery in the offseason to fix a meniscus tear, keeping him out of individual workouts through September, that he suffered while participating in games for the United States Under 19 team.

The Cougars are an interesting team to me. They're not deep and their strength is their backcourt (especially with Thompson). They think that they're going to be pretty good by the end of the season and they did win the Great Alaska Shootout. I'm very interested in the possibilities in this game and if the Cats can find a way to win it it's the kind of game that could look pretty good on our resume come March.

The last time Wazzu visited the 'Gon...

Quote
MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- Fred Peete scored a career-high 18 points, as Kansas State improved to 3-0 on for the second straight year with a 62-53 victory over Washington State Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum.

Jeremiah Massey scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half for the Wildcats, who came from behind in the second half and for the third time in as many games.

The Cougars (2-1) led 32-29 early in the second period, before Massey dumped in six points during a 14-4 K-State run that put the Wildcats on top, 43-36.

Washington State clawed back to within 49-47 on a 3-pointer by Josh Akognon with 6:44 to go, but the Wildcats responded with a 9-0 run -- capped by Clent Stewart's 3-pointer with 1:47 left for a 58-47 lead -- to put the game away.

Kansas State led for most of the first half, the result of sharp long-range shooting. The Wildcats hit five of their first six 3-point attempts, just three days after going 1-for-7 from beyond the arc against Denver.

But the Cougars also hit five 3-pointers in the first half, and Robbie Cowgill's buzzer-beating 3 gave Washington State a 30-28 halftime lead, its first of the game.

Thomas Kelati had three 3-pointers and 11 points to lead Washington State.

Kansas State Head Coach Jim Wooldridge Quotes
Released 11/27/2004 by Kansas State University

On the start of the game...
"At times we really played well, offensively. We had moments when we got down on the shot clock and had to throw some long perimeter shots up, but I thought it was our best effort as a team to crack a good defense and get a good shot. We got to the foul line several times in some key moments that helped us extend the lead or get a lead. I felt we just had a better team performance, really on both sides of the floor."

On K-State’s defense improving...
"I think - like you would hope - we have improved over the last couple of weeks here. Our defensive field-goal percentage has been pretty good during the regular season games that we’ve played. This game, defensively, was a different kind of challenge for us. This is a motion game that we had to guard. They had a couple of individual players that could beat you off the dribble. They had post players that could step back and shoot it from the perimeter. Washington State’s offense really challenged a lot of people because of all that movement and the level of their players."

On holding Washington State to under 40 percent shooting...
"Our players have the ability to defend and we do defend. I don’t think we are a loose defending team at all. I’ve never really thought that about us. Like most teams, you hope it gets better from game to game, and this game it was good. It was better than maybe the last time out against Denver. We’re trying to get better every time out, and today it was better."

On Fred Peete’s play...
"At times, I thought it was his best ballgame that he has played here. He got to the free-throw line nine times, that means he was more proactive. He was bringing the ball to the basket and getting in the lane with it. His three-point shooting - like most kids in the country - is going to bounce up and sometimes bounce down. If you get to the free-throw line, it means you are trying to play inside their defense and that is what we need him to do as much as he can without forcing plays."

Quote
Washington State Head Coach Dick Bennett Quotes
Released 11/27/2004 by Kansas State University

On the game...
"I thought it was a really good game until the last five minutes. We lost our poise and they retained theirs. That was basically the story of the game. It was very hard fought. I thought that both teams played very hard. Then (during the last five minutes) we just turned the ball over and took some bad shots. We didn’t convert the good ones that we had. That was pretty much the story of it."

On using up the shot clock during their early possessions...
"That’s pretty much how we have to play. We don’t have a single guy right now that can break the defense by himself, or rise up over the top of anyone. We have to have good cuts and good passes. We had good looks throughout the game. I thought they (K-State) picked up their intensity in the second half. They did a much better job in the second half. We had opportunities that we didn’t cash in on. They made big shots. I thought they ran their offense well. I thought they also did well on the glass. We have many limitations and we try to cover them as long as we can. I thought our freshmen played well. We played four freshmen a lot during the course of the game. I thought they played more consistently throughout the game than our older players did. The effort level and the execution was pretty much there up until the last five minutes."

On points in the paint...
"That’s not a stat that I’m not attune to. Sometimes there’s a shot in the paint that isn’t contested. They didn’t have very many shots this afternoon that were uncontested. I don’t think that was the difference in the game. I believe the difference was that we went cold, made a few turnovers, and they didn’t. They made good plays down the stretch."

The return trip to face Wazzu...  :frown:

Quote
Cats edged by Wazzu
Released 12/03/2005 by Kansas State University

Cartier Martin notched his third double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds vs. WSU.

PULLMAN, Wash. – Lance Harris’ last-second shot was blocked and Washington State escaped with a 58-57 victory over Kansas State Saturday at Friel Court.

Cartier Martin scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Wildcats (4-1), who suffered their first loss of the season.

Derrick Low hit four three pointers and led three Cougars in double figures with 14 points as Washington State (4-1) avenged its loss to the Wildcats in Manhattan from last season.

Kansas State led 44-42 midway through the second half following a dunk by Martin, but didn’t score for the next six minutes as Wazzu reeled off 11 straight points to forge a 53-44 advantage with just under four minutes to play.

A jumper by Martin and eight quick points by Harris, who finished with 12, during a 10-3 Wildcat run pulled K-State within a bucket at the 1:33 mark.

Low connected on a pair of free throws with 36 seconds to go to push the Cougars’ lead back to four before Martin answered with a 3-point play to make it a 1-point game.

However, neither team could score in the final 24 seconds as Washington State missed four straight free throws and the Wildcats turned the ball over with a chance to go ahead before Harris’ game-winning attempt from the right corner was blocked.

Kansas State got out to a good start to open the game and led 12-7 in the early going. A 5-minute Wildcat drought let the Cougars back in the game as Wazzu scored 13 straight points to forge an 8-point lead.

K-State bounced back with a run of its own, closing the first half with a 12-5 spurt to cut Washington State’s lead to 29-28 at the break to set up a back-and-forth second half that went down to the wire.

I think you're asking steve dave to take punitive action against a poster because you felt wronged in some way on an internet message board?

Did I grasp this correctly?
