You can't be racist and like basketball.
Pretty much confirms what we all know, but still cool.

• Walker qualifies: ESPN’s Andy Katz reports that guard Bill Walker has earned a qualifying test score and his paperwork is with the NCAA Clearinghouse. If he is cleared, he’s expected to play for Kansas State in the spring semester. Walker, 6-6 from Cincinnati, is Rivals.com’s No. 6-rated player nationally. He’s ineligible to play his final season of high school ball and is trying to graduate early.

    This ZERO is my Hero
On a GP chat board some people are saying that they have seen Walker on campus and is reportedly taking some classes already.

I find this somewhat hard to believe because I would think we would be hearing about it, but it would be great news if true.

Even if Walker is on campus and attending classes I don't see him being able to practice or play until December.  The NCAA is going to be slow about clearing him, and he will also have to be a full time student to be eligible to begin play.  So let's not start sucking our dicks quite yet...

Its fairly simple.  If Walker is in classes, he's cleared to play.  If Weiser somehow got the NCAA to push things through so that Walker could get enrolled friday, then he can begin practice.  If not, then he can't practice until December after finals.

I don't think its out of line to be positive though, obviously Walker wants to be here enough that he submitted all his paperwork to K-State and we are now trying to get that pushed through the NCAA.  In his situation there is no LOI to sign, so this IMO is the next best thing.  Sure, its been strange how quiet this has been kept, but the information of the last week has been nothing but positive IMO concerning Walker.  It seems to me its just a matter of whether or not he plays now or in december.

No way bill walker is on campus already and taking classes.  I'm pretty sure he would have given an official verbal commitment and it would be all over the news if he was in manhattan.

We've tried to keep it quiet to reduce opponents pushing things through the NCAA and slowing down the process.

The Walker situation is very unique.  Here's a kid declared inelgible to play HS ball and he's only got 2 classes to get through plus a qualifying ACT score to enroll into college.  Everything indicates he got those two things done and finished just recently, so that gave him a shot to enroll in 8 week classes at K-State and the deadline for that was last friday.  Every indication is that was his full intention, and since he can't sign an LOI now, everything was kept quiet to speed the process.  It seems late last week the process looked to be going slow enough that it looked unlikely that Walker would be able to enroll in the 8 week classes so Weiser went to the NCAA to try to push things through, we just don't know how that went yet.  Bill Walker will either be annouced as a Cat now or that that he'll have to wait until december b/c of the NCAA pretty soon IMO.

I can't believe people are buying the load of bull that Fitz is selling.  The NCAA clearinghouse moves at its own pace and nobody else's.  The AD can not "push things through", nor can other schools load them up to prevent someone from getting cleared.  Rush took over 4 weeks to get cleared, and there was nothing that ku or any rival school could do to effect the timeline.

Actually you're wrong, schools can request fast tracking the clearing process.

Acutally, they can request it, but a request is just that.  Name me one basketball player who was "fast tracked" in the past 10 years.

Ok, so you were wrong in your first post, get called on it, and then say it doesn't matter anyways because it doesn't work.

We really don't know b/c its not like the NCAA comes out and says "we really pushed this guy through".  For all we know Rush might have been "fast tracked".

The other things is that the Walker situation is very unique and its possible that opponents could've put complaints into the NCAA simply to slow the process down, especially when days not weeks are of the essense for the Cats.  Its not so hard to believe that many of our Big 12 opponents wouldn't want Walker to start practice in december rather than october.

I really don't think we know exactly what the NCAA does, but I have to give Weiser some respect for trying even if it was fruitless.

For the NCAA 'fast tracking' would probably still involve a couple months rather than the half year or so they usually take.  And, although I doubt if other schools could poison Walker's approval, I do think the NCAA will be slow and painfully careful before clearing him just because this situation is a first, and it will set a precedent that other kids will probably also try.

I never said that schools couldn't request it.  I said that even if they did request a fast track, it doesn't matter because the NCAA moves at its own pace.

When you call the cable company, you can "request" the guy show up at 10:00 am, but it doesn't matter becuase he'll show up when he damn well pleases.

My whole point was there is nothing that K-State or any other school can do to effect the speed at which the NCAA clearinghouse processes paper work for student athletes.

Other than to request a fast track and ensure that the prospective student athlete has completed all the necessary steps that he is responsible for.

Once again, KSU can "request" that it be fast tracked, the clearinghouse will say "ok" and move at the same speed it would had there not been a fast track request.

So the Cincinnati TV stations just announced this evening that Bill Walker has officially received a “qualifying score” on his ACT and is “on track to play a K-State this spring”.   Nothing new but at least a confirmation of what was old...

Walker is overrated IMO. I've seen him play and he is a poor man's Adonal Foyle without the cool name.
