Wow.  Amazing what a change in perspective can look like.

Again, this only highlights the change in offensive philosophy that Prince decided upon when he came here.  We saw "the old Prince" vs OSU and some vs NU.  Now I hope to see him (and Franklin) start to mix up the stuff they implimented from the Colts, with the I formation, power footbal (and even QB run game)l Prince evidently ran with Virginia the last couple years.  It seems offensively this staff is still finding themselves, transitioning from what they'd hoped to run (pro-style, Colts offense) to what Prince is comfortable with (power football) and trying to blend the two.  It will be interesting to see how this offense develops the rest of the season.

What I fear is that those UVA folks seem to be used to (and happy with) boring, mediocre NFL wannabe football.

I'm just not sure that will work here.  You gotta have some ultra athletes to run pro-offenses (no FB) and have much success at the college level, in my opinion.

That's the deal nation.  I don't think Prince ran a complete NFL scheme at UVA, not like we're seeing here anyway.  They ran a lot out of the I, ran some QB run game, and were pretty balanced the last couple years with an athletic QB.  A lot of the NFL style (1 back, 2 TE) offense is from what this staff put together this offseason, starting with a week spent with the Colts in February.

They had 450 rushing attempts to 224 passing attempts last year, and their QB had 500 yards rushing and was their 2nd leading rusher last year.

I'd love to see some QB run game.  Not to the extent that Snyder ran it, but some QB draws or some QB options (out of the "complex" shotgun formation).  It's not like Freeman's going to take more shots by running that ball, he already gets hit on damn near every play anyways.

Hagans (UVA QB in 04 and 05) averaged around 6-8 carries (taking out sacks) per game and gained around 500 yards on the ground each season.  No reason Freeman can't put up similar numbers.  I wouldn't be surprised if Prince isn't holding back on that though b/c of the depth at the position.

Freeman wouldn't make a great running QB, IMO.

And yes, I saw the OSU run.

One way to slow down a pass rush, especially if you pick up blitzing backers, is a QB draw.

I agree, I don't want to see Freeman running the option.  But there is no reason not to run some designed draws, especially if teams are going to keep bringing it like they are now.  And if we're going to be a largely zone team, nothing wrong with some zone reads either.
