Prince's Last Big Game Game Plan

Prince's last big game offensive game plan (Louisville) was way too much for his new team to handle.  I didn't like the gimmick plays he felt he needed to run to win that game; we would have lost either way but I'd rather lose without employing triple halfback option hail mary passes from the kicker.  Franklin must have called about every play in our book.  Freeman won't be ready for that complexity.

This week's game plan will telll a lot about our new coach, win or lose, we'll know more about who we hired in Prince.  Did he learn anything from Louisville?

Nebraska's secondary is not good, I say open Freeman up and throw the hell out of the ball in the first half, I don't care if we go 3 and out the entire first quarter, establish the pass and then run the hell out of the ball in the 2nd half, playing ball/clock control, pressing for a few more special teams big plays.

The Louisville game felt like there wasn't a gameplan...at least one that they would stick with throughout the game.  They started off with a lot of shifts, new formations, getting Clayton the ball in space, and had moderate success moving the ball...DM just couldn't make enough throws, and of course had that awful interception at the goalline. 

In the second half, it seemed like the creative passing plays used in the first half were abandoned and someone else was calling the plays.  Maybe Dylan just sucked more that half...I don't know.

The trick plays were poorly executed and called at the wrong times...I don't have a problem with them, though.


I think we'll see a gameplan similar to the one vs. OSU, and I think that's what we should go with.  Keep it close, and win it in the fourth quarter.  What concerns me is OSU hadn't seen us line up a big fullback and pound the ball before...will the coaches make the necessary adjustments to run the ball against Nebraska, who won't be seeing the "power" running game for the first time?

Lets hope so. UofL game felt like we thought we could only win by pulling a few trick plays. In the end I think it backfired all over us. We need a solid plan and I hope we something similar to OSU. Force them to pass and stack against the run and i think we are okay on D. On O I want to see us pass. Runt he ball to keep them honest or at least until we established we can move the ball  on the ground and then light up that weak ass NU secondary.

I think our D is enough to support the upset. We are up and down on special teams so hopefully catch a break. Can Josh and Co. show up and show something??? We shall see.

I think we have to let our passing game open up the run.
They're going to be heavy in the box like all of our opponents have and force Freeman to make some throws before moving help coverage into the secondary.  I see a low scoring game, and a field position game going into the 3rd quarter.  It might be a game of who's defense gives up the 1 or 2 big plays, that's good for us given how our defense/special teams have played up until this point in the season.  One thing that concerns me is how well we do at stoping NU's running game between the tackles.

NU secondary is suspect.  I think Prince goes after them a bit to try and keep the skers off the line.  We'll see how the Huskers line up against the offensive line but I think Wafford v Carriker will be interesting.

The OSU game has been the only game we've actually committed to running the ball.  I'd like to see us try to do the same thing against NU, but it'll be up to the coaches to have the same game plan (i.e. run the ball) but show NU some different looks while doing so.  That being said,  I'm of the belief that Prince is going to let Soul Glo air it out to start the game, which imo is a mistake. I hope the offense has figure out how to run a screen consistently and correctly.
