i don't think you can blame a stupid/reactive decicsion of Wesier regarding Huggins' contract for the stupid/reactive decision that Weefs and Stache made with prince's extension.  Both were stupid/reactive decisiions.  

the new AD better (but probably won't) tell Snyder "tough sh*t" about getting out of those games.  if OB really wants to calm the waters, he'll preside over the terribleness that is KSU football, not further deepen the monetary problems and thus affect men's basketball....and which would only F us in the A even more by not being able to retain Frank should/when we have success in future seasons.  

That's the thing; I'm sure Snyder would argue that we'd be better off financially to not schedule home and homes, but to have more guarantees against non-BCS and 1-AA teams.  We all still remember the USC talking explanation that he made that decision "at a weak moment" and we would've been financially better off by not playing those games.

Yeah . . . I think it's pretty easy to blame the Prussian's and the Weepers mindset on Timmy.  Now, was that very smart thinking on the Weeper and the Prussian's part . . . no.   But their AD gave them plenty leeway for concern.  

Again, just think about the reality that Tim Weiser was more than happy to have the lowest paid basketball and football coach in the Big 12 . . . name me 1 Big 12 school where the AD made within $50K a year of the men's basketball and football head coaches??

I recognize the other side of the argument, and I agree when you're talking about future scheduling or if you're working from a clean slate so to speak.....but snyder wants what's best for football.  but right now, the best thing for the athletic department is to not spend millions (and it would be) to get out of of all those games....because we'd have to (a) spend millions to get out of those games (b) spend hudreds of thousands to get guarantee games (c) probably still have to go on the road for those crappy games anyways (see LaLa).

Yeah, can't disagree with any of that.  I wouldn't think Snyder would lose money to get out, especially considering our current economic situation, but who knows.

Buying out home non-con games is dumb.

Buying out home non-con games against name opponents who will probably get you two shares of the non-con TV appearance fee, in addition to your home gate $s is dumb.  

Buying out home non-con games after already playing the road game (and punting the home gate $s for that game) is dumb.  

Buying out home non-con games AND having to pay the new cost to last minute schedule a  D-1AA team, which I believe can now demand (and get) ~$750K+ is dumb.

To do all of this while interest & external excitement in the program is relatively low & the economy is still in the tank, well, that's dumb too.

Next time they send me a pie chart with all of their expenses to justify the donation req. increase, am going to ask for a separate slice of the pie to show dumb business decisions.

I will say this, the old man is not a fool.  There are currently no rumors of us canceling our game in UCLA, correct?  We already played Auburn.  It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he called those teams up and asked, "What would it be worth to you to not have to travel out to Manhattan, KS?"  Auburn always tries to weasel out of return games anyway.  K-State is going to get bought out of at least two games, if I had to guess (which is music to Snyder's ears).  Where that money goes (to buyouts on K-State's end, to payouts for the dregs of football, or into somebody's pockets) I have no idea.  But methinks Auburn and UCLA will be paying K-State .... not the other way around.

I agree that OB prolly isn't stressing about getting out of these games. He didn't do it the first time around, he just changed the future scheduling strategy. In '89 we still played at ASU. In '91 we still played at #4 UW. In '93 and '94 we played Minnesota. I just think he's worried about other things right now (like where he is going to find kids who can actually play football and that want to come to KSU).

Go play UCLA and take your lumps if that's what it comes to. Then maybe AU and UCLA will buy their way out of coming to Manhattan. If they don't buy out then maybe you get some tv revenue. A bigger name opponent will surely help ticket sales a little. Don't forget that Oregon is supposed to visit 'hattan in 2011, and in 2012 Miami.

I think OB also realizes that he can't drop all of these games because of the impact it would have on recruiting. Plus winning ones of these games would KSU more exposure which OB knows is more air time to discuss equestrian or the possibility of sand volleyball and all the fine youngsters associated with those programs.
