living the sweet life boys (I think)!

So a couple of weeks ago I  stumble across the fact that Hickory Farms is having some kind of insane sale (like 90% off). I've never bought or thought about buying Hickory Farms stuff before but I do like both meat and cheese. It was also kind of late and we'd all had a couple of drinks and ended up ordering an insane amount of stuff. I am now the proud owner of about ten pounds of summer sausage and twenty pounds of cheese that are all suppose to be eaten in the next 10 months. Can I do it? Should I do it? Will I enjoy it? Is this stuff any good?

For reference I now roughly have what is equivalent to about seven of these guys.

sounds like the joke is on you if you really believe that.
stunner hasn't left Lawrence, d00dz, do you really think he'd drop out of school for a 3 month trip to whoreland?

Sorry, we found the sale thing @ midnight and I think it only lasted a day fwiw. We got stuff for five bucks that they usually sell for 40-50. ended up spending about forty dollars worth total (some mints and chocolates also). Kind of felt strange ordering it though, like "jesus this is a ton of meat and cheese...should we really do it? why in gods name do we need all this? I don't even know if it's any good or not"

but like sd said, I thought it would be good for future pakers, home fball games etc. All of it came the other day and the packages say it's all good for ten months or so. Haven't tried any yet. will report back soon!!!

I would suggest taking the biggest sausage you purchased and just knawing on it at work for days on end.  Like, just keep it in a plastic grocery bag in the work refrigerator and take it out and chew on it while walking around the office to freak everyone out.

I knew a kid in high school who would do stuff like that all the time.  He would be sitting in class and then suddenly pull out a fist sized chunk of pork roast  or something and start gnawing on it.  It was cold and pulled straight out of his pocket, no baggie.  He often gnawed on chickoin bones as well.  He wore a vest with many pockets.

Not to mention the hideous smelling farts produced by eating that quantity of summer sausage so frequently.

 :runaway:

here is where I found it....http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=1111142

what starts out as a few pages of people happily ordering meats and cheese at 90% off turns into a 41 page fiasco of people saying that hickory farms overbilled and changed their orders w/out telling them. must get home and open boxes.

Sorry it took so long to update...

good news- got a ton of stuff. not exactly what i ordered but close enough that i won't complain.

bad news- they are not sending the cholate desert things and instead refunding money.

taste updates...

pepperjack cheese- only so-so. and i really like pepperjack. just not hot and kinda gooey. i ate it from the box though and not from refrigerator so who knows..will update later if temperature has an affect on taste.

smoked cheddar- very good. have about four pounds of this. happy.

summer sausage- biggest downer was that I was suppose to have different kinds of this/flavors but they ended up sending only one flavor. very good I guess. don't really have any other summer sausages to compare this to. feel free to ask questions.

will post pics and update over the course of this year.

Do you see any significant change in your BMs?  I assume you are only eating cheese and summer Sausage exlusivly as your diet, aside from the $3 popcorn.

Fair enough, but how about this...freeze them, give them away as Christmas presents this year.  Huh?  Huh?

***UPDATE ALERT***

Cut up some of the meat and and then additionally cut into slices. kind of like you do w/ pizza. I then put this in some red beans and rice. going for a gumbo type thing. was pretty good. surprised how much smaller the meat slices were at the end of cooking though.

also put some pepperjack cheese on a turkey sandwich over the weekend and put it in the toaster oven w/ tomatoes slices. so disappointed in the pjack cheese I almost don't even want to talk about it. just doesn't really taste like much of anything.  :frown:
