We've had basically 12 (or 16) years of disappointment outside a couple since Kruger left for various reasons.

This season would probably be #2 on my disappointment scale:

Top 5:
2000 - The season of no hope.  Lost 15 of last 16 including 11 in a row.
2006 - The season of close losses.
1999 - The season of failing to take advantage of a down league, only this season tops it.
2005 - The season of close losses 2.
1997 - The season following an NCAA appearance.  10 game losing streak.

2004 was more disappointing than 2005 for me.

Yeah, 04 could be in there.

Yeah, not a great thread, but in my tenure of seeing LOTS of disappointing basketball I was just thinking about which seasons have been the most disappointing as a fan.

There is no excuse for this team not being in at least the NIT, and it appears that's a long shot at best.  That's unacceptable.

I think you had to have some expectations to be dissapointed with a season. This was season was set in stone when we retained Wooly. It has been hard to watch, but the dissapointment came last year when Wefald kept this guy, and Weiser didn't have the sack to resign over it.

I'd prefer the next kryazasdrwqski (sp?) over the next Gillispie.

Yeah.  That would do.

I'm just saying if we can get a new guy in, get most of the players to buy in and not leave, and then lead us to at least .500 in the league and COY I'd be quite pleased.

The season of close losses????? Wtf fan? Do you really think this team is that close to being 6-4..7-3 in conference play? I mean sure...we have had close losses but you can't assume you will go 10-0 in games under 5 points. If we were a decent team...we beat MU by 10+. If we were a decent team...we beat ISU by 10+. If we were a decent team...we destroy OSU on our home floor.

The key is to cut down the # of close games.....and turn some of those close wins to blowouts.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Close losses turn in to blowout wins.  That is fact, IMO.  However, we have no continuity, with JUCO players, and transfers.

The point is there is a ton of missed opportunities.  Yeah, some should be turned into blowout wins.  However, the league is very even in the middle, so I expected a lot of close games and teams that are worth a darn win 60-70% of those games.  I knew we'd have them this year just like we did last year.  We didn't make plays vs ISU and CU, should've won comfortably vs OSU, and played poorly but stayed close vs BU and MU.  Regardless, IMO we should have won AT LEAST 3 of those games.  That's what I'm getting at.  I don't expect us to win all of them, but I expect us to win more than we lose; that's what good teams do.

What do you mean by we "should have" won three extra games?

Why do you think that? Do you not think every other big 12 team is saying the exact f-ing thing?

We are what we are. A 4-7 team in league play. We are no better or worse than that record. It's a very good indicator of how good this basketball team is.

I understand that everyone can say that.  I'm just saying the difference in good teams and bad ones is that they find a way.  They turn games like BU and MU into blowout wins.  They finish vs OSU.  Perhaps they don't win vs CU and ISU.  However, those 3 other games are games that I said we had no excuse to lose and I still believe that.  Baylor had lost 20 in a row and are inexperienced and gave us every opportunity to win that game.  MU had just found out theri coach was done and really didn't play that well.  OSU really isn't that good and have been just as bad in close games than us.

I agree we are what we are now; a 4-7 team in the league looking at maybe 1 or 2 more wins if we're lucky, but I think with some tweaks here and there we could've been better than that, at least 5th in this league.  I don't think that's just fan speak, in spite of Wooly's past I still had expectations for this team and they aren't even coming close.  I don't see how that's some bad or totally off the wall concept.

There is a BIG difference between 7th in this league and 4th. I still believe we are a LOT more away from success than "a few tweaks"

We are the only big 12 team to NEVER finish .500 in conference play.

I don't think the margin for error is that great.  A little more flexibility out of the "flex" is the main thing I was looking for.  It didn't happen.  No reason teams should be able to take away our primary options and we have no answer.  I don't agree with Jim saying "we just need to run it better".  Give the kids some more options and allow them to make some plays.  That's how you win close games and turn games that are close into blowout wins.  The intial move to a new offense was long overdue, not adaptin and opening it as teams adapt their defense to stop it is a huge mistake, especially since its one of the simplest offenses you can run in the first place.

Bad link, Fan.

Baylor went 8-8 in 1998.

On the bright side, ku football has never been above 3-5 in conference play.

Baylor hasn't been above 2-6

Eh?  :blahblah:

Don't know why it didn't work.  big12sports has a media guide for basketball though.

I'm going to be accused of "low expectations" but I firmly believe in keeping realistic expectations.  K-State was an ELITE program in the 50s and 60s, a nice program in the 70s and 80s, and we've basically stunk since.  I want to get the best coach we possibly can to do a good job here and I want to have a competitive program.  I want to see us go to the postseason every year, compete in the upper half of the league more often than not, and make a run at a conference title every now and then.  However, I'm not expecting us to overtake Kansas in the next 5-10 years.  We need to walk before we can run.  I think we're in a position to be a postseason team VERY soon, next year in fact.  But this crap that Conference championships being our goal seems a bit much to me when we haven't won one in my lifetime.  If we could approach what Sampson has done at OU I'd be very happy.

    THE b IS NOT CAPITALIZED

I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70
