fatty, nice attempt. That reminded me a lot of Quentin Buchanan jumpshot, nice elevation, form was okay, but there was really very little there and it usually missed badly. Drink more water out of that big jug next time.
There were some things to see today. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not going to give you a 45 point breakdown b/c seriously you cannot do that without watching film. Especially when you are viewing from field level.
Everyone will want to know what the QB battle looks like and its about the same. Meier looks healthy and is the veteran so he probably has the edge right now, but Freeman "looks like" an NFL QB right now and has freaky talent. Freeman will be a stud before his time is out. There was no 3rd QB to be seen at this time.
I like the looks of Cedric Wilson and Jordy Nelson at WR. Wilson is a big athletic looking guy that at first look reminds me of Q. Morgan. He's got to do it on the field though.
Clayton is being pushed hard by Franklin. He's our most talented back and like most of those guys he's been let slide in the "little things" since he was young more than likely. In fact after he scored in the final goalline scrimmage he was chewed out (rightly) by Franklin for bouncing it outside when he should've stayed tighter and powered the ball into the endzone. No Patton to be seen, Alsup looked solid, and JUCO Petrie was a nice small change of pace back. Anders got a few reps as well, but Petrie looked better on this day.
Oline, two RFR in Meier and Stringer were manning the OTs. Hafferty and Handy at G, Bedore at C.
Defensivly I mainly watched the DEs. We do seem to have some speed at that position, but we look a bit small and I'm not real sure how we'll handle teams that run right at us. They'll have to be sound in leverage. However, Robert Jackson will help us, Eric Childs and Ian Campbell had some solid moments as well. No sign of Moses Manu.
Some nice individual special teams drills mixed in, though it was hard to watch the units from field level.
In the scrimmages, the defense seemed to "win" the first set, the offense might have had the edge the 2nd, and the offense won the final goalline situation 4-3. It was nice to see that we do still have a power set out of the I (McCardle at FB) with a 3rd TE. However, we couldn't score between the tackles out of it, we got two off tackle (Clayton's bounce and Alsup outside to end), plus two throws, one to McCardle and a nice touch pass to the back of the endzone to TE Donald Raymer from Freeman.
The biggest absenses that I saw were Manu and Patton. Wafford and Moran were both in attendance, but not fully suited out (no helmet or shoulder pads) and did not practice.
Finally, Coach Morris is fun to watch. Intensely spirited and constantly talking junk to Franklin in the final goalline score drill; he'd run all the way from the back of the endzone to the 20 (where Franklin was standing) to bump him and talk some junk. Coach Prince was seen racing Watts (Watts was in a backpedal) at one point during practice. Times have definately changed at K-State.
That's all for now.
