Jon Cornish

Which is more lame:  (a) being really excited that Jon Cornish is your team's running back or (b) being excited that ku has a running back that might be able to rush for 1000 yards?

You might answer (b) because you think, "well, if you put Cornish on a great team, he could be pretty good."  But in that case you're really not getting excited about Cornish, himself, are you?  I can't think of any good reason to answer (a).  I remember when we used to get excited about hoping that we would not suck anymore.  ku isn't in nearly as bad of a situation as we were, though.

I'm stumped.  They surely can't be equally lame.  One has to be lamer than the other, right?

ku hasn't had a 1000 yard rusher since sometime in the mid 90's.  The dirty birds would consider Cornish going over the century mark one hell of an accomplishment sadly enough.

Cornish is a self proclaimed "stud" by some ku fans.  He was such a stud that last year he could not steal away the job completly from worthless Clark Green.

Clayton was dissappointing at times last year.  Running behind the worst OL in the Big 12 did not help matters.  If Clayton does not step up his game, he will be watching Johnson get all the carries. 

And running for a 1000 yds is not that great if you stay healthy and get almost all the carries.  JJ Smith was a good back (not a stud) and he had over 1000 yds, even with a Ksu pass happy attack of May and the WR trio (K-Lock, Running and Ty)

No one in their right mind would take Cornish over Clayton.  Even if Cornish was a lot better than Clayton, though, it would still be totally lame to get excited about him.  Lameness is part of Cornish's essence.  And getting excited about lameness is lame.

I asked them why he was not geting 25 carries and not getting 90 percent of the workload.  I don't think Junior RBs (who are studs) share the load with an average back (like Green) when your offense sucks a**

Cornish participated heavily in special teams, mainly because he made a huge difference when he was in there.  This resulted in less participation in the offense, unfortunately.  Also, his pass-blocking and pass-catching skills were not as good as Clark Green's were.  I am hoping for a better all-around back this year in Corn-dawg.

Yeah, he mainly needs to work on blocking and catching the ball.  He is very fast, has really good acceleration and he is developing good vision and competitiveness.  He is Canadian, so he had quite a football learning curve when he got here.
