He's only been a head coach for two years, and those two seasons have included losses to Arkansas-Little Rock, Monmouth, Alaska-Anchorage, and a home loss last week to 2-11 Indiana State.
That's arguably more bad losses in two years than Jim's had.
Lowery would be the ideal candidate, IMO, if he had spent two more years as an assistant at Illinois and was two years deeper into his head coaching career at SIU.
McDermott would be a much, much, much better choice, IMO.
