Lawrence, KS = 7th smartest city in the country according to Forbes.com.

It was basically a list of college towns.  Criteria took into account % of population over age of 25 with a bachelor's degree or higher, with a PHD, with a professional degree, and that graduated from HS (although I think they just used the bachelor degree number).  Boulder was 1st. Ames was 6th. Columbia was 11th.  IMO any dumbass can get through college and HS.  And usually what stops people from getting higher degrees is $$ or just being sick of school.  Degree doesn't equal smart.

Good explanation. Since Lawrence is behind other Big 12 schools, turns out that wasn't as impressive as it was meant to be.

Thanks for the breakdown.  Very stupid post by BMW.  Not smart at all.

The people of Boulder and Ames are laughing at BMW.
"Kids used to hit him and stab him with pencils," says Harley Bennett, Jason's father. "Finally I told him he had to stick up for himself. Jason is not a violent person. One day he hit one of the kids back and got suspended."

No question it's the smartest city in Kansas (FWIW this is also why it's the only liberal community in Kansas.  Intellectuals are liberals.)  I'd say #7 in the country is pushing it though.  I supose Forbes has their way of measuring, but there are a lot of places in northern California and New England where being a menza member is like having a driver's license.  I imagine Bolder was up there...anywhere with hippies has to rank high.

I'm kind of surprised actually. I would have figured Overland Park to be about twice as smart as Lawrence. Maybe they were just doing a small list of college towns.

I just looked at Stouts website, apparently they have another resturant that advertises that they serve "fresh seafood" . . . A Lawrence, KANSAS restaurant advertising "fresh" seafood.  That's ballsy.

Are you also saying mccormick and schmidt is not fresh as well in kc? i guess you are also calling all of the legal seafoods across the country bad.

Nah...think about the ratio of PhDs, college students, post grads, Med students and Law students to total population of Lawrence.  Overland Park, and most of Johnson county for that matter, will make more money, but don't confuse education or intelligence for earning potential.  It's actually pretty suprising any non college towns would make the forbes list.

Obviously, when the city's major employer is a large university, it's going to skew the education level of the workforce, but Overland Park is populated by a large number of K-State and ku grads as well as other universities where the people send their kids. I haven't seen the list, but it seems more likely that OP is counted as part of the KC metro area and not as its own metro area.
