Who cares if a player doesn't ever redshirt?  If he's good enough to play that early, you want him on the field regardless.  When he's gone, you try to replace him with someone better.

You may be right, though every football coach to ever coach D1 has arrived at a completely different conclusion.   I would presume we are talking about Freeman.  Any player, regardless the position, benefits from a redshirt year, the qb even more so.   I can't imagine any reason to not allow them the year to learn all that is required of the position.

Do you ever watch SEC football?  Or Notre Dame?  I am, of course, assuming that a coach only refrains from redshirting a player if that player is the best available option.  I'm referring to any player in that situation.  We don't yet know what Freeman's status is.  If he is in that situation, I have no problem with him not redshirting.  That view is not shared by everyone.

i think the only reasons not to redshirt freeman is if you start him or if one of the other 2 remaining qb's gets injured youd probably have to pull his redshirt status.

What if Freeman looks like he has the potential to be our top quarterback next season?  Wouldn't more playing time for Freeman this season be extremely valuable in that case?

yes and no, i think.  if thats true, which it is at this point.  wouldnt there be a set number of snaps he would need to receive in games this year that would make it worth playing him?  in what situations does he get those snaps this year?  are we going to be good enough or are we going to do what missouri did last year and bring him in for a series in every second quarter of every game?  i say just redshirt him if possible and deal with having a freshman qb next year.

How much better of a situation is Missouri going to be in this year with a Sophomore QB that has played College ball before rather than a Red shirt freshman that has never seen the field in front of more than 5K people?  I would say definitely don't red shirt him if we didn't have Everidge.  Meier and Webb leaving next year with the only remaining QB to never set foot on the field wouldn't make me feel too comfortable.  However, I can see both perspectives, as I'd love to have this guy around when we play UCLA; however, I want to win next year.  If Freeman has a better shot at getting the W than anyone else, you're a fool for not letting him get the experience with suitable backups if something should happen.  We've all seen that athleticism and intelligence can only take a player so far, experience will always be a major factor.

imagine how much better ku would look this season if kerry meier had actually taken some snaps last season.  i'm sure he would have too if he hadn't been hurt.  difference of course is that they didn't have a everidge, meier, webb alongside their truefreshman like we do.

i like what mizzou did cause brad was a senior and chase was definitely gonna start the next season.  with freeman we dont even know that for sure, what if everidge tears it up this season and we burned freemans redshirt?  then it would have made no sense.

in summation, redshirt freeman because we have experience that will be around for more than just this season.

Okay, Say we win only 5 games this year and miss out on a bowl game.  One of those losses was at the hands of Webb, Meier, or Everidge not getting it done.  Do you really want to miss out on another bowl game because you want Freeman to stay one more year?  What if He ends up being a god and leaves for the NFL his junior year?  Do you still want to red shirt him?

Forget about a bowl game scenario...   Imagine playing ku.  Meier is hurt, Webb keeps audible to some shotgun option and is getting pounded for a 3 yard loss every snap and Everidge has thrown 3 interceptions.  Do you want Freeman in the game?

now you are getting into specific situations...if it comes down to something like you described, its probably worth it.

Specific situations that are reminiscent of the last two years.

It's a simple question; If Freeman is more capable than the other three, do you red shirt him?

Heck even if he's #2 on the list, I'd rather play him now and have him get the valuable experience to take over the next season.

methinks everidge with a year of exp is greater than freeman as a truefreshman
