A little, but I think it works less the higher the level of play.  I think its real overrated in pro football and somewhat overrated in college.  You are only going to get so much play from it, and in the end its about the kids playing the game and making plays.  

I don't mind the comment.  Its obvious Prince is preaching speed to this team and trying to build confidence through it.  Bring it Horns.

I don't like players running their mouths, but not because of the "motivational" factor, I just don't like it if they can't back it up.  

I think the motivation factors into the game until the first play.  Then after that, it's pretty much business as usual.

I agree with that.  I don't think this was Walker really running his mouth though.  I think he was just asked about Texas' speed and he basically said we're fast too, maybe even faster than those guys.  I don't mind that.

A player saying that he thinks his team has great speed isn't running the mouth.

Running the mouth:  They're not that good and I guarantee a win.

Not running the mouth:  I think our speed matches up well.

Whining:  B-C-S . . . dollar signs.

Not Whining:  We got some tough calls against us, but we've got to overcome that, tough calls can happen to any team.

Reggie (and the defense) just need to play a good game.  I didn't really take his comments as "trash talk".  I was speaking more towards Ian's comments last year before the ku game and Clayton's comments a couple of years ago before the ku game as examples.

Reggie is a BAD man - I think that we have a very tough minded defense. I like a bit of errogance in our players. Any thoughts on where this might put us in the top 25 with a win in Austin? I would like to think higher than 25.

I assume you mean to say, "Special Forces." And, Princes keeps that kind of intelligence marked as "classified."

as was pointed out by others, bulletin board material at this level is retarded.  If there is a motivational factor for this game, it lies in them getting embarrassed last year.  I posted the quote because if you make a comment like that, and then lose, it will come back after the game.  I don't see that much of a big deal, except that if you aren't a championship caliber football team, quotes like that make you sound dumb (regardless of who makes it).

Seriously though, our defense really is one of the fastest in the Big 12.  And it's nice to hear that coming from Prince, which came from Walker.
