The senior threw for 162 yards, ran for another 116 and had his hand in the first five touchdowns Loveland (1-0, 1-0) scored.
He opened the scoring on the Indians’ first drive with a 50-yard option scamper, then hit Thomas Nelson for a 7-yard strike on the following drive.
During a stretch from the first to third quarter, Klein nailed 12 straight attempts, three for scores. He finished 15-of-21, hitting five different receivers in the contest.
“Collin is just tremendous,” said Loveland coach John Poovey. “He makes a lot of great plays and makes a lot of things look easy.”
True enough, most of what Klein did on the score sheet looked pretty easy, even if the Northridge defense looked more and more hapless as the seconds ticked by.
His third strike was a 30-yard sling to Jesse Lewis with a second to go in the half, after Loveland started its drive at its own 42 with less than a minute to go. Klein — with no timeouts to work with — hit two quick passes, spiked the ball, then hit Lewis on an inside seam route for the marker.
