Billy Butler: One of the best young hitters we’ve seen in a long time. Will be a fan favorite (he is already, actually).

Alex Gordon: Represents the entire package, offensively and defensively. Good speed, above-average power and should hit over .300. He also can run, and can make the spectacular play at third base.

Mark Teahen: Took a step back offensively (don’t be fooled by his average) but could become one of the best right fielders in baseball. He’s already one of the best base runners in the game. His power stroke will return if the Royals stay patient.

Tony Peña Jr.: Unbelievable trade by Dayton Moore. Peña is everything you want defensively at shortstop. He’s also everything you want in terms of character. Now, if he can just learn to bunt and take a walk.

Gil Meche: Eventually, he will get some run support. And he’ll win 20 here.

Joakim Soria: He’s the type of scouting find that is essential for small-market teams. The Mariano Rivera comparisons are warranted.

Brian Bannister: Another steal for Dayton. The thinking man’s pitcher. Good pitcher for Royals prospects to emulate.

Zack Greinke: Will settle into a role someday, and the feeling now is that he could excel in almost any role. Oh, and keep reminding yourself he’s only 23 years old.

Jimmy Gobble: Sorry, but it’s just too hard to find reliable left-handers out of the pen. And he’s learning now how to be nasty to left-handed hitters. He just turned 26, by the way.
