The Kansas City Royals on Thursday announced the signing of 26 2007 draft picks, 23 undrafted free agents and a draft-and-follow pick from 2006.

The Royals signed five of the top 10 2007 picks, pitcher Peter Hodge Nelson, shortstop Fernando Cruz, outfielder Hilton Richardson, pitcher Casey Feickert and pitcher Holland. The Royals currently have signed 12 of the first 17 picks.

I'm not up on how long it takes to sign baseball draft picks and if you have holdouts like they do in the NFL.....But this has to be a great sign, right?

The lower round picks that decide to play pro ball usually sign quickly.  Unless there are extenuating circumstances, such as legal issues, there really isn't much negotiation.  Most of them make just about the same salary with no signing bonus.  There usually isn't much of an issue with "holdouts" per se, but some just don't sign and go to college instead of playing pro.  Only the first round picks really have much holdout leverage.
