He was off of the roster for a while according to some powertards and is now back on with a new picture and recap of his freshmen season.

I wouldn't bet on that. 50:1 odds.
Not going to happen.
I wouldn't mind it happenning, but that possibilty is almost nil. He has been telling everyone who was willing to listen for weeks now that he is ready to go back to Florida, unless something strange has happened to change his mind.

I'm not saying he's coming back.  All I know is that he was off of the 2007-08 roster for a while and suddenly he's back on.  That's it.

As of last week he hadn't met with Coach Martin.  Perhaps that swayed him.  It is strange that he was added later.

Again, if JB is back, this opens the possibility that the open scholarships might not just be defections.  At least prepare for the possibility that one or more of our HS kids might not qualify.

Maybe he didn't make grades and they won't release him as a result.  Is it not true that leaving in good standing doesn't hurt the program but leaving after bombing badly does?

Yes.  JB leaving in bad academic standing would not be good for KSU.

Nice, and I would say significant, find.  I guess there is a chance that the SID just honestly forget to put him up there originally, and they just fixed it, but that would be quite a coincedence since Bennett has been talking about leaving.  More likely, he has changed his mind, or the SID put him up to reinforce that we aren't granting a release.

FWIW, a poster on another board said Kent has been planning (before Huggs left) to transfer.

I'd say the chances of the basketball office forgetting to post JB info and pic are slim and none. SOMETHING'S changed. And if JB's back then it would seem DY's and DK's scholarships BOTH have to go! Could this be Frank Martin's first storm he'll have to weather? It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in the press.

I did see a quote from Kent the day after Huggins left, that said he wasn't sure what he was going to do.

The thing with Kent is he has shown enough that he could probably go to the right system at a low or mid major and be one of the top 2 or 3 players.  Yearby, I'm not so sure...  And with the low PT, either one of these guys could be the "want to be closer to home" candidates.  We'll have to see.  I would be fine with Bennett staying, I think both he and Colon will continue to improve throughout their careers.

I'd rather keep Bennett than get Gilbert or Samuels.  Ideally, Yearby would transfer Bennett and Kent would stay, and we'd rescend the offer to Gilbert.

If you're saying what I think you're saying about the player I think you're saying this about, even if you're just saying it's a possibility, then I will go into pre-emptive meltdown mode.

all right, who's on tap to start chasing down qualifying scores?

if martin knows/believes that someone in the class isn't going to qualify, based on  who he pursued, i would think it would have to be brown or sutton.

as for dy/dk, i wouldn't lose sleep over either leaving.  dy did nothing, and dk just took minutes away from guys with more upside.  thanks for the 'solid' minutes dk, but i'd rather watch the painfully slow process of our other bigs developing, even if it hurts some in the short term.

and i agree with yosh.  i'd rather have jb than samuels or gilbert.

You need to run stats on how many players Eric Bossi calls a "baller" (Deilvez Yearby) and post it on Phog.net.

Brown and pullen were said to have issues but IIRC both stated or it was stated that they had qualified...I don't remember Sutton's grades being an issue.  There are two people waiting on test scores - Beasley and Samuels.  I would have thought we would have known about Beasley's scores by now.

Saw JB Tuesday on Wanamaker in Topeka. His head completely fills up the windshield in his red blazer, the thing is huge.

If these kids have had some issues with their scores and GPA, they really won't know until they get their final grades.  The only thing the NCAA measures is a core of 14 core classes compared to their ACT/SAT on a sliding scale.  Its entirely possible they could still swing below the line when they get their grades for the final couple core classes they may be taking this semester; if they were truly on the bubble earlier this semester, then it is still possible to go downhill in one or two key classes and become inelgible.  And there will be kids that could be potentually effected by this with the increase to 16 core credits next year and the ability to only have 1 of those count at a 5th year prep school.  I hope this doesn't happen to any of ours, but I tend to think our offers are based on attrition of current players rather than guys not making the grade.

Pullen has qualified, not sure on Brown.  Beasley's Mom's silence is scary though.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

I would be surprised if he stayed.  I thought I heard that Martin coached the big men last year and Bennett and Martin clashed because of how demanding Martin was.  JB is such a head case, I think I would take Samuels over him.  I like Samuels upside.  However, I would take JB over Gilbert.

Don't you think we would have heard if he didn't get qualifying scores? It would have went off at a national level already. His mother has been quiet since before huggins left but has been logged in a few times here.

Right now, Bennett is not leaving until after he retakes a class this summer for a better grade. He needs to get the grade up so he can transfer to another division one university. KState won't release him until he meets "good academic standing" requirements, and that also means he has to retake the class, although he would still get a release by appealing to the NCAA (it would just take longer and be a pain in the ass for him to do).

So, he will not be on the team next season and will not be in Manhattan any longer than it takes to finish the class (which is not one you can take online).
