I think Samuels is a good pickup too, maybe not impactful this season, but by next year.  But why the &@#% did we get Gilbert?  The guy's other college choice listed on Rivals was Bradley.  OMG!

I still want my cooler, bitches!

I'd subscribe to the thought that beyond next year is a greater concern than next year at this point.

STRIKE FIRST. STRIKE HARD. NO MERCY
If Deilvez leaves than our 2007-2008 Rosters is the most athletic roster probably ever!!!!!!

It was all said and done when Coach Baker, Yearby's old high school coach left, he quit playing & wasn't given an upper hand.

Ben Kelso was Yearby's coach in HS. Coach Baker (and his imaginary friend) were here for most, if not all, of Wooly's tenure.

My hope on Gilbert is that our staff sees him as our next Akeem.

Most people thought Wright was a reach (of course it was a different situation) when we signed him too.  He was a no star player who had offers from LaSalle, MidTennSt, WSU, Pacific, and Baylor.  Gilbert is a no star player had offers from Bradley and Utah Valley St.

IMO...Gilbert is an upgrade from Yearby.  The scholly is only used 2 years, gives us some height as well as the ability to gaurd some bigger players.  Yes his stats aren't that impressive, but the dude was playing w/an injured shoulder that required surgery.  Much better use of a scholarship than yearby.

Beasides what's eating Gilbert Grape?

Gilbert's coach said he had 15 different coaches calling about him.  So he's a guy that was getting some late notice BallPlayers indicated at one point that he's a solid late pick-up with a good offensive game that can come in and be a role player.  It's not like we're counting on him to come in and average 15 per game, if we get anything out of this kid it will be more then what Yearby or an empty ship would give us.   If things don't work out and he sucks then you can run him off after the season and just give out the ship next year anyway.  I don't really see a lot of risk in taking him.

i can buy that to an extent (though i liked wright as a recruit, and thought his size and stats looked ok), but gilbert, is what, ksu's 8th 3 now?  how is adding a reach recruit at the only position ksu has depth at going to impact the game?

at least yearby's skillset, to the extent that he had one, was different than what over half the team has.

I don't understand this signing.  He's definitely an upgrade from Yearby, but I'm guessing the coaches could've scouted the rec to get an upgrade from Yearby.  The next Akeem?  That's fine, although I thought the point was to get better.  Akeem was never indicted for rape so maybe Gilbert is an upgrade.    Also, at some point we're going to have to pay up for kids leaving, even if they leave in good academic standing, but I guess we cross that bridge when we get there.

if he's the next akeem, we'll still be getting better because he'll be akeem coming off the bench instead of akeem starting.
