His best win is over a mid major that was a 4 seed.

4 mid majors faced----  Bucknell and Bradley upset the Squawks.  SIU clearly outplayed his boys.  He did beat Pacific in 04

The 2 good teams his ku teams faced ------- lost to 3 seed Ga Tech AND lost to 2 seed UCLA

6 tourney wins in 4 years.  Not real impressive when ku was a 1,3,4,4 seed those years.

And keep this in mind -----

ku was Pre-season #1 in 2005 and pre-season #3 this year
The team he took over (who made the title game the previous year) had 5 of its 7 top scrorers back (plus added top 30 recruit JR Giddy)
ku's 8 man rotation this year included SIX 5-star guys and TWO 4-star guys (plus Rod Stewart was 5 star coming out of HS)

Some objective comments --

a) preseason rankings are often meaningless in hoops

b) we got their Sweet 16 game vs So Illinois televised here and they were not "clearly outplayed"

c) you left out a round 2 win vs UAB who had enough moxie to upset the #1 seed in that season's regional; that was definitely a quality or good win

d) a better way to look at it is how "they played to seed"; over the last 4 seasons, ku should have finished at worst 10-4 if they "played to seed"; they finished only 6-4 so they did underachieve but not as badly as some may think

So when Wisconisn beat Bucknell........ was it a gritty Bucknell team because it had the "moxy" to beat a 3 seed ku?

Bottom line......  in 4 years, you let 2 mid majors take you out in round 1.  You shot 60% and still barely won vs SIU because they outplayed and outhustled you big time.   You played 2 games where the seeds were basicly even (3 seed GT beat 4 seed ku and 2 seed UCLA beat 1 seed ku) and you are 0-2 in those 2 games.

ku failed once again to make the Final 4 as a one seed.   This on the heels of being a top 4 seed twice and losing in round 1.

Congrats on UAB beating a 1 seed so ku could actually make the Elite 8 in 04.  Do you guys really think you would have beaten a 1 seed when you were a 4 seed..........LOL

    The "other" KSU
this is how i look at it, they have about 5 millions mc donalds guys, all that talent, coaching talent(?), and this is the best you can do? Let's not forget that their last NCAA championship was 19 FREAKING YEARS AGO! They have one championship in the last 50 yrs (like 35 or so other teams) but yet they sit atop a pedistal because they beat up on the big 12 north? So basically this yr your conference was between ku, UT, aTm, and I guess Tech. WOW, what a challenge! (BTW that was the same weak big 12 north that kept us out of the tourney) Yeah, i know - bring the "all of the big 12 tournament titles, and over all titles... GREAT congratu*&@#%ing*lations with the amount of talent they have at Gay U, THAT'S EXPECTED! (or so the Gay U fans infer) Check it, with all the high-ass seeds Gay U has had in the recent past, and the lack of success - there is obviously something wrong - perhaps we have another Boston Red Sox Curse... now THAT would be funny.

Is it better to not beat lower seeds (Self) or not beat higher ones (Huggins)?  Granted, both scenarios lead to situation where neither get a NC.  Seems Self's ukan teams were over-rated and Hugg's UC teams were appropriately rated.
