It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

I don't feel like getting sued today.

But you're right, they do cover bball way better than Rivals.

If there is anything good, let us know tho.

Anything different in the bennett write up from rivals?

Just that he's visiting.

Though he's highly rated, i would say I do have some concerns...

Like what?  We won't continue to get the Serge Afeli's and Tyler Hughes' of the world?

 ;)

you're assuming bennett is better than hughes.
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."

Mr. Pimp...I tried replying yesterday, but was having some technical difficulties...

Although he's very highly rated, it appears he lacks some offensive skills..

Who knows.

"Can't coach 7'2"

I mentioned this guy to my mom today. She said "Wow, we haven't had anyone like that since Nick Pino!"

I've read that, Nation... And, here's my take:

He's rated as the 5th best center coming out of HS this year, and 23rd prospect overall as a 5-star recruit.  I know we've been conditioned over the years to "discount" star ratings for a couple of reasons...  First, they are far less of an exact science in football.  And secondly, K-State wasn't getting a ton of 4 & 5 star recruits in football, so as a fanbase we had to find a way to justify it.

With that said, I find basketball recruiting rating to be FAR MORE accurate for the simple fact that the top kids all play every summer on AAU teams in huge AAU circuit and constantly compete against one another.  So, if he's been rated the 5th best center and 23rd overall, he can likely play the game a little.

Hell, at the end of the day, every player has weeknesses.  I don't think Bennett is the second coming of Patrick Ewing, but I'll bet he's the best big we've had in town since Les Craft.   ;)

Don't get me wrong...I agree for the most part RE: BBall recruiting being more accurate.

Then, I remember how highly rated Marques was.

This guy is obviously rated even higher, and I would love to have him.

You know, that's a tough thing... trying to get my head around Marques Hayden.

Obviously the kid had talent, and was a tremendous AAU player.  I've always thought he was sort of a "victim of circumstances" of sorts in that he might have developed into an NBA caliber talent with the guidance of our new coach.

Of all the kids that came through KSU the past six years, I've sort of wondered if Hayden didn't get shortchanged the most.  I think the kid really needed a more demanding, disciplinarian type of coaching than what he got...  But, who knows?  I'm just guessing.

Some.... maybe.  Didn't seem to slow Les Miller (DT from 83-85 that went on to play for the SD Chargers) down back in the day!!

First, as I implied in my post above, watching a dozen clips of a player on rivals film gives you a very limited look.  Most of the reports say he's got work to do on offense but is a solid defender right now.  There isn't much there indicating an ability to post up on the low block and score consistently or how he moves without the ball, or how well he plays team defense, etc., but again its a very limited look.

I do know he's ranked by every Top 100 out there and averages out to be ranked #43 in the nation, the 7th highest rated C in next year's class.  He's ranked as high as #23 and as low as #82.  To compare him with Hughes is silly, Hughes wasn't even one of the Top 5 players coming out of Kansas and didn't sniff any Top 100 ranking.  There is a reason for that, and as Bookie says, recruiting rankings are much more accurate in basketball b/c these "experts" can watch these kids play tons of games in the summer, let alone at their HS.  They are based much more on actually watching them play the game rather than height, weight, and 40 times like in FB.  Yeah, he could be a bust, but he's one of the top 5 or 6 bigmen available and it would be a great addition to next year's class.  If he comes in here and works and lives up a little to his potential, he'll be a fine player for us.  Cartier was ranked #54, as high as #33 and as low as #89 for comparison.

That said, even the comparison to Hayden is limited.  Hayden didn't even finish as a consensus Top 100 player, though he was rated high by several, namely rivals.  His highest rating on a site that indexes all the rankings was #97 after the summer, and he was ranked as high as #56 and wasn't even in several of the major Top 100 rankings and wasn't in the consensus Top 100 by the end of his SR season.  Check the link below to see the RSCI Top 100 which compiles all the major rankings.

Agreed, Hayden wasn't near Bennett in the rankings.

Also, Hayden was a pretty salty player as a frosh.

hayden was known to be a head case and thats why sampson stopped recruiting him.  probably would have had the same problems anywhere.  he had talent though.

Overall, Bennett would be the highest rated HS recruit since recruiting rankings become big if you put them all together like this site does.  Rolando Blackman I think was highly rated by several publications in that day, but Bennett would surpass Martin, Hayden, or Willingham who were the Top 100 kids (or close) since the 80s.  The only other HS kid in recent memory with this type of ranking would've been Mark Young, who was Top 20 by Gibbons I think.

That's a blast from the past. I saw him play football as an 8th grader (I was a 7th grader).
He was about 6'5' or so and over 250 lbs, was at least 10-12" taller and probably 100 lbs heavier than anyone else on the field.
They simply lined him up at tailback and ran dives straight into the middle of the line. It was hilarious to watch all the guys grabbing him or jumping on his back until he could go no further. It was a minimum of a 5 to 10 yard gain every play.
