First, as I implied in my post above, watching a dozen clips of a player on rivals film gives you a very limited look. Most of the reports say he's got work to do on offense but is a solid defender right now. There isn't much there indicating an ability to post up on the low block and score consistently or how he moves without the ball, or how well he plays team defense, etc., but again its a very limited look.
I do know he's ranked by every Top 100 out there and averages out to be ranked #43 in the nation, the 7th highest rated C in next year's class. He's ranked as high as #23 and as low as #82. To compare him with Hughes is silly, Hughes wasn't even one of the Top 5 players coming out of Kansas and didn't sniff any Top 100 ranking. There is a reason for that, and as Bookie says, recruiting rankings are much more accurate in basketball b/c these "experts" can watch these kids play tons of games in the summer, let alone at their HS. They are based much more on actually watching them play the game rather than height, weight, and 40 times like in FB. Yeah, he could be a bust, but he's one of the top 5 or 6 bigmen available and it would be a great addition to next year's class. If he comes in here and works and lives up a little to his potential, he'll be a fine player for us. Cartier was ranked #54, as high as #33 and as low as #89 for comparison.
That said, even the comparison to Hayden is limited. Hayden didn't even finish as a consensus Top 100 player, though he was rated high by several, namely rivals. His highest rating on a site that indexes all the rankings was #97 after the summer, and he was ranked as high as #56 and wasn't even in several of the major Top 100 rankings and wasn't in the consensus Top 100 by the end of his SR season. Check the link below to see the RSCI Top 100 which compiles all the major rankings.
