I know he's skinny and all, but an obvious improvement over Bennon.

Following nabbed from GPC:

Points:

Afeli: 0.27 pts/min
Bennett: 0.16 pts/min
Colon: 0.21 pts/min

Rebounds:

Afeli: 0.27 reb/min
Bennett: 0.21 reb/min
Colon: 0.18 reb/min

Is it just because Huggs is trying to develop the younger guys for later seasons or what?

The reward of playing Afeli more in production is probably not much in Huggins' mind.  Might as well get these guys as many minutes as possible for next year.

His defense/hustle has to just be horrible or something in practice.  Because the defense and hustle of Colon and Bennett is horrible in games...Afeli would have to be a lot worse.

Sitting a superior player for the sake of getting freshmen minutes doesn't make sense right now.

That's kind of what I was thinking.

Akeem, Dave, Cartier, Clent, and Serge for when we need a center.

When we don't, get Lance in there.

Although JB played one of his better games of the year last night, that's not saying much.  Colon was dreadful though.  He has been.  I'm not sure why we keep starting him.

I agree.  I thought Serge played well for the few minutes he played at CU.

The only reason I can think of is that he's not a big enough body to keep people out of the paint.

But having an inside scoring threat would really help our game out.

I trust huggs judgement, but I don't know what the deal is.

Let's not all of a sudden forget Serge's basketball background.

Serge might be ever so slightly better, but both Colon and Bennett have 25-30 pounds on Serge and probably have just as much potential to help us (overall) as he does.  I think Huggs made the right call on this one.  For every extra rebound or bucket Serge gets, he probably gives up another on the other end b/c of his size.

I think Serge might have developed into a solid player had he come in as a freshman, but to get a completely raw player as a JR, then switch coaches, doesn't add up to a guy that's going to see a lot of minutes.

    The very best.
Does Serge have anything close to 50 blocks?
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Depends on your definition of close.  Unless 4 is close to 56, no.

and there's two misdirected shots for every bennet block.

he has a looooong way to go, but there's no denying he impacts the game.

I can understand the argument about Bennet altering/blocking shots and whatnot.

But what about Colon?  He always starts over Bennet and I'd rather see Serge in there than the slow  worthless center incarnate of pervis pasco.*

*Don't tell Colon I said this.  I don't want to get beat up.

None of our current big men could hold Pasco's jock.  Colon would be thrilled to play like Pasco.

Don't know, Coach seems to like Colon.  Must do some things in practice.

I'd take Pervis in a heartbeat on this team.  This team with a "bought in" Pervis would be tied with UT.

Serge is great - I will never forget the sight that was burned into my memory of Colon running down the court on Defense... yawning after losing a battle under the boards. I think that JB needs to chill his attitude. Next yr should be better. I would love it if both colon and jb could have a good game in the same night. When I wish upon a star...

Tyler Hughes>>>>>>Colon or Bennett.  Two complete no talent stiffs.  If this team misses the tourney Huggs has only himself to blame by not sticking with Kenny Williams or getting some other juco big man that isn't a complete stiff.

I'm sure Huggins would have loved to have Kenny Williams or a comparable juco big.

It sounds like we've got another position whose function this board fails to understand.  Maybe we should just stick to discussing positions that we know from experience - shooting guard and small forward.

That is not very accurate - blame the coach for Bennett and Colon not playing up to what we all think they should - NOPE! These two guys are 18 yrs old a piece, this time last yr they were getting ready for prom and trying to get into Mary-Ann Rotten-crotches panties - Both of our bigs are pretty raw, as was mentioned somewhere else, they need experience and why not this yr instead of next when we will actually have a chance at some special times? We can all sit around and play armchair Huggie, and second guess a bonafide Hall-of-fame coach - and Kenny would have done more, but if these guys get better and they do some good things for us next yr - all of this will be for naught. I like the progress that JB had made - also Colon has a pretty nice little 12' jumper... we'll see how it all shakes out.

he probably should have recruited one then.  there were plenty available when he decided to go after colon.

Who?  I honestly don't remember...Colon didn't visit until May.

yeah, but the scholly didn´t just come open when colon visited.  the staff knew they had 2 to give to bigs from the start.  and they didn´t target jucos.  i feel pretty confident they got exactly the 2 they had as 1 + 2.  they were after baldonado to some extent, i don´t remember many other jucos, but there were several others to choose from.

Yeah....who?  I want to see how they're doing.  I know Baldanado didn't play.

tak brown was my favorite.  and his recruitment was open when huggins was hired.

not sure who else, but pretty much all that signed in the spring should have been at least theoretically available.

Yeah, recruiting was really weird last year.  We were recruiting like we were going to kick someone off the team.  Hannah and Colon both committed to one available scholarship at about the same time, IIRC.
