Nobody ever said there was a whole chapter devoted to Martin.  The chapter was devoted to Miami Senior and their problems, and Martin was in charge of the program at that time.

Please do try and keep up.

Dan Wetzel, author of Sole Influence coming up on WHB

at 1:00.

Before the grapes come around and say he has an agenda, here's some background on the guy: Lancelot Link

To listen online: WHB

Honestly, can the cheerleader be happy about who Soren lined up to be a guest today? We'll see, but I'm thinking not.

W R I T E R ' S   B I OThe closest Dan Wetzel ever came to major-league sports was hawking popcorn as a 14-year-old at Fenway Park. The main sport then was conning Yuppies out of their change.
Wetzel, 29, attended the University of Massachusetts and held internships with the Indianapolis News and Chicago Tribune following graduation. He spent five years as an editor and writer at Basketball Times and has won 14 national writing awards including five consecutive years in investigative reporting from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

He has been featured in the past four editions of the The Best American Sports Writing. The co-author of the critically-acclaimed investigative book Sole Influence, he has been with SportsLine.com since January 2001. He enjoys hanging out in El Paso, Texas, rooting for Marathon Oil Basketball, and considers Arthur Guinness one of the greatest men to ever walk the earth.

Dude is clearly a hack.

A hint for our Kentucky friends, keep an eye open for sarcasm. You know, like, calling an obviously qualified writer a hack. Or, say, offering an opinion on the quality of a journalist's work when your avatar is Ron Burgandy.

Re: Dan Wetzel, author of Sole Influence coming up on WHB

I guess they're talking about Roy because Wetzel thinks that Tom Grant started giving JaRon stuff as a junior or senior in HS, not in the 8th grade like actually happened.  He fails to mention also that he's done this for other athletes, but not one ever signed with ku.  Kareem was part of it, not to the extent that JaRon was, and he wouldn't even look at ku.

Now he's saying Crudup took money from a booster.  Wrong.   He signed with an agent.

I guess we should all hope Wetzel researched his book better than that this interview, because he's made about 5 factual errors in 3 minutes.

No idea whether he's a good coach or not. Guess we'll find out. They gambled on this thing big time. He has no business being a B12 coach. They're going to close their eyes and hope things work out.

It sounds like they are staying away from Frankenmartin since Wetzel didn't write that specific chapter refering to him.

Looks like they had to defer the conversation to a general discussion of recruiting.

Re: Dan Wetzel, author of Sole Influence coming up on WHB

KSU fans had no problem with the book, it was Posnanski that made it sound like there was a "whole chapter" devoted to him in a book that there was also a chapter on Myron Piggie.

Wow, the tone of this thread changed quickly.

.” Martin denied any wrongdoing, but it should be said that his work at Miami Senior High was so over-the-top scandalous, he merited an entire chapter in the book: Sole Influence: Basketball, Corporate Greed and the Corruption of America’s Youth."

They are now bashing Wetzle's "journalistic integrity".  And Posnanski saying there was a whole chapter devoted to Frank martin is "just symantics".

A little under halfway down, all the way through page 4.  See the variety of excuses as to why it's ok for cheaters to ridicule a school for hiring a cheater.  They range from "ku didn't cheat" to "recruiting high school is worse than academic fraud" to "well at least we don't hire cheaters(instead we give them raises!)"

You can't help but laugh when the defense of ku's involvement with Jaron Rush is, "he didn't sign with ku".   Why don't the squawks ever remember the 2nd most surreal press conference in college athletics history??

I think it was Petro that threw in the clarification 'not fair to compare martin to piggie' to which wetzel responded, 'not fair to compare piggie to martin'.

I'm not sure what he intended, but that's what I believe was said

Yeah pretty hilarious the guy came on and said a few things about Martin and then basically went into a tirade about how dirty college basketball is and went on a lot about how dirty Roy is.  Even called out Coach K at Duke.  This basically backs up what most of us have been saying the entire time.  Big time bball is dirty nearly everyone bends and even breaks rules.  The Star attacking and singling out Frank Martin for stuff that happened ten years ago in Miami is a total which hunt by a biased newspaper.

We don't break the rules.  That's why the hiring of a guy who coached for a high school that had players who obtained fake addresses so that they could enroll and play for him is such a big deal.

If we had a reputation as one of the dirtiest programs in the nation (like, say... ku) this would not be news.
