Do any of you think Frank Martin plays Colon because you think he is obligated to? I don't see any reason why he should even touch the floor. He provides absolutely nothing.  And for some odd reason, every time he gets the ball down low recently, he thinks he has to put the ball on the ground and try to score, which 9 times out of 10 doesn't work. It's almost as if Frank just wants to make him happy to let him get his minutes. I understand Luis has been faithful to the program, but there's a point in time where Frank needs to put aside this and play Wally and JHR.  Develop their game.

I don't mean to bash Colon, and 99% of our HBBIQ fans know that he's not talented. I don't blame Colon. I blame Martin. I love Frank, but c'mon, play the best players. So Luis PRACTICES great, well, he damn sure doesn't PLAY great. God, just give Wally and JHR some PT to develop...

Sorry, had to vent. Please continue....

Last night our best bigs couldn't stay on the floor (with a little help from the zebras).  Colon is challenged offensively but he played reasonably good defense on Aldrich.

I see Colon as a 7-8 man.  Used when our other bigs get into foul trouble.  I do not see enough talent to be a starter.

frank play colon because he gets rebounds and plays decent D.

im not a colon fan, but its much better to see him hustle than to see kelly foul every 18 seconds, then to raise his arms in the air every time.

colon should be more disciplined not to shoot the ball tho. unless he is an inch from the rim standing on a 8 foot ladder.

9 times out of 10? That's being a little generous.

But, honestly, he still starts but he hasn't been getting that many minutes. Frank didn't really have a choice last night with the foul trouble and we had to have a big out there with Aldrich on the floor. I would have liked to see Henriquez get some more minutes but I don't think he's strong enough to hang with Aldrich.

The real problem is that he touches the ball when he's on the floor. He should never be allowed to touch the ball unless he gets a rebound. I can't believe how many times they try to force it to him. It's ridiculous. ku went from double teaming him and getting an instant turnover in the first half to not even guarding him the second. Because, what's the point? He'll probably dribble it off his foot anyway.

I agree with you 100%.  Unfortunately, he hurts us when he's in the game more than he helps.  It's a TO if he puts it on the floor at anytime.  That layup he missed under the basket last night was inexcusable.  Wide open and can't even jump enough to dunk it.  I like his passon for the team, but I won't cry when he's on the bench.

Colon is fine as a 10-12 MPG guy and no doubt Frank trusts him despite his lack of athleticism.  Start off the game so Jam-Sam can come off the bench.  Play solid help defense.  Get some boards.  Make some easy shots off trash.

He just needs to stop thinking he's some sort of offensive weapon and when he's isolated against bigs without help, he's going to give up some buckets.

There was a reason he only played 8 minutes vs ku in Manhattan, but had to play 18 last night; namely Kelly played 36 in Manhattan, but only 15 last night.  Someone had to play.

Colon has hardly ever 'made some easy shots off trash.' he grabs the ball, pivots until theres a hole in the court and does a half ass hook shot that typically hits the top of the backboard.

theres only one way for him to stop thinking he's an offensive threat. frank has belief in his players, but this isnt working. coach the man to stop shooting. he needs to tell him to be that player to move the ball around on offense.

the reason he played 8 mins against ku in manhattan was because our other bigs were doing what they are supposed to do. not as bad as foul trouble either. colon comes in when frank is pissed at everyone else. you know he doesnt want to play colon.

Amen to that. I dont know why he thinks he has to shoot every time he gets the ball. It drives me insane.

I have to agree.  If he can get a cheap basket then fine but don't put the ball on the floor.  His defense is ok.  My biggest question and has been for some time is why hasn't Wally been getting the minutes.  I was at the game in Lubbock and Wally didn't even see the floor until the game was practically over.  Last night he comes in and plays like the player we all thought he could be when he was recruited.  I'd like to see more time from our young guys and less minutes from Colon.  He's been a hard worker and does hustle on the floor but we've got better talent waiting to play on the bench.

Did you see Wally's dfense/rebounding at times last night?  That's why he hasn't played.

That said, Wally will be really good before he's done.

At least we've got a chance offensively when he's in the game.  I know you're not bagging on him, but I still think he's better than Colon.

I just love it when I hear. Well why does that guy get minutes. He does nothing. I tend to wonder what folks watch. All I'm going to say is as a TEAM, KSU got to a #5 ranking as compared to what, In the last 25 - 30 yrs.  :kstatriot: Louis Colon does plenty it just doesn't always show in the stats.

Well what do you propose ECN? People will come back. Once everything is ironed out. We are eventually going to be above and beyond what any other board brings with Info and Insight into Kansas State, I am hoping we can get video and stuff at our interviews, and we have some big ideas for KSUfans

Yes we will. Sometimes, just because something's shiny and new doesn't make it better.  :kstatriot:

I think Colon gets the time he does cause Frank hasn't bought into JHR just yet. I do believe that JHR will get a lot more playing time next season.

Colon is a big body that's hard to get around in the paint when he's playing D.  Simple.

And I guess this makes up for his jacking up shots, missing 2 foot lay-ups, and basically playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end?

Colon boxes out properly and probably plays the best interior help defense on the team.  Wally and JHR don't do these things.  Also, he's the only player on the team who's as strong as Aldrich right now.  What's so hard to figure out?

This is pretty much it.  Did you see how almost all the bigs EXCEPT Colon allowed the Morris twins and Aldrich to get inside and take the offensive rebounds.  They just don't get the concept of boxing out.
