What I had related to me at a Nike Basketball Clinic by a former Tubbs assistant at tcu. In Spring of 2000, Billy was not feeling much support money wise from tcu and was very interested in the KSU job. Went as far as talking and him saying he wanted it. Evidently Wefald told Max U "We will not hire this guy"

I never did hear about Tubbs, the worst though was when Kruger bolted for Florida. Both Gene Keady and Eddie Sutton were interested & told thanks but no thanks and Altman was hired hours later. I know if's don't matter for squat, but IF KSU hires one of those two we likely would not have ever had the long dry spell in our b-ball program.
