LSnyder certainly has a way of not saying anything. Regardless, it's something to read:

Football Holds Spring Press Conference
Released 04/28/2009 by Kansas State University

April 28, 2009

Kansas State Spring Football Press Conference

Head Coach Bill Snyder

On the format of the upcoming Spring Game...

“The format will be identical to what we have always done in the past.  We will have the number one offense and the number two defense on one side, and the number one defense and number two offense will be on the other side. The kicking game will be watered down. I would have liked to gone in and utilized what we are doing right now in the kicking game with personnel, but the last time I tried that, it was such a logistical issue of changing jerseys and what not, it is just not worth the time right now. It will be whatever offensive group is on the field, they will do the kickoff returns, field goals, and that stuff. So the special teams will be somewhat watered down but the rest of the game will be another regular game.”

On the progress of Spring Practices...

“From the beginning of spring practice to where we are right now, the improvement that we wanted to make was kind of like pulling teeth. It was so very, very, gradual. I thought we got to the point at about practice seven, about halfway through, where we were beginning to see improvements and we could define it. Then we took that five day break, the coaches went out on the road and did some recruiting. When we came back, we were set back. What I mean by that is that we didn’t take off where we left off. It set us back maybe three or four days from where we were. The progress began from there and in the last two days, it gets ugly at times, but I have seen us get to a point which well exceeds where we were halfway through. So this past week and yesterday, we have seen marked improvement in a variety of different ways. Like I said at times it can get ugly, and the consistency is certainly not there, but when we step away from all of it, we are better now then we were five practices ago and I think exceedingly better than we were when we started. We are still in the position of what is in front of us is way out there.”

On Carson Coffman...

“Carson in the last two days has made a big jump in his performance. For the most part, in the scrimmage environment, he has been going against both our one’s and our two’s. He is still extremely inconsistent but he has taken some steps in the past two days.”

On certain positions not performing well...
“I do know that each position has its own set of circumstances that you have to deal with, but there are some concerns with each one and when I say that, in some cases it deals with fundamentals, other cases it deals with the capacity of plays and the explosive type of football, other times it can be the personnel. It can just be a variety of different reasons of concern for each and every group we have.”

On his perspective on Spring Games...

“I have never been a strong proponent of Spring Games, but it is something that you need to have. You can gain a number of things that are important. First of all, there is a transition taking place, such as what happens on game day is probably going to be a little different with this staff than with the previous staff. So you get an opportunity to do that. The entire environment of organization as it relates to game day: Game day activities, pre-game warm-ups, halftime exposure, and game management. You still approach it as one of those routine practices that you want to get the most out of.”

Sophomore Defensive Back Tysyn Hartman

On the excitement of the spring game...

“I am definitely excited. We are all getting excited to go out there and show everybody what we have been working for all spring. I have just been trying to work on improving my game in the spring and trying to improve the secondary.”

On improving his game through watching film ...

“It has been hard work carrying over from the offseason to spring ball. We have been watching film, trying to correct mistakes so that way you know what the coaches are going to say when you come in and watch film in the meetings.”

Senior Defensive End Eric Childs

On what he has learned from the new coaching staff...

“They are hard on you, but they are going to be hard on you. There are some times where they are just going to go off on you, but you know that once you get past that you know that it is all for the best. I feel like I learn something everyday from them. It doesn’t matter what coach it is, there is always somebody coaching you. So I feel like I have learned a lot.”

On what he has been working on in practice...

“I have been working on being more explosive off of the snap. I feel like I have been accomplishing that. It’s really a thing where I’m going to go out there and I have a day to day goal. If I was bad at something yesterday, I’m going to try to get better at it the next day.”

Senior Offensive Lineman Brock unruh

On the improvement of the team from the start of practices...

“It really seems to me like we have been making some measurable improvement these first few weeks of spring ball. We are nowhere near where we need to be, but the improvement is a good sign that we are going in the right direction.”

On the progress of the offensive line...

”Just getting coordinated and having everybody being on the same page has been a really big thing, in pass protection as well as run blocking. It is kind of the choreography of everything, we have to get everything put together, and it just seems like there are signs of us being able to do that. Being a cohesive unit is a really important part in being a good football team.”

Junior Quarterback Carson Coffman

On feeling more comfortable running the offense...

“I feel like I am getting a better grasp on the offense. I am really starting to feel comfortable in the plays, knowing what my receivers are going to be doing, and knowing where the holes are going to open up. These last couple of practices, I feel like I have been playing pretty well. The first half of practices it was just learning, and now I think I have got it down to where I can just get out there and play.”

On the excitement of the spring game...

”We want to show the fans that we are ready. We want to give them something to be excited about, so I think it is pretty important that we go out and perform well. I am excited for Saturday and I want to show the fans that I can do it.”

On filling the void left by the departure of Josh Freeman...

”Following Josh (Freeman) are big shoes to fill. He was a great player here and he will be a great player in the NFL I think. I feel like am pretty well prepared to follow in his footsteps. I backed him up for three years and I think I have an idea of what it takes to play this position in the Big 12, and I am excited to get out there and show people what I can do.”

On the kicking game thing can't you see OB throwing stuff around the office and just screaming F'it, F't . . . we just won't do it and then, you know, kicking somebody out of the office or something like that . . . making somebody do pushups.

Instead of doing push-ups, I was thinking that he makes the special teams unit (coaches included) run the bleachers, because I heard that's a wildcat tradition.

    The "other" KSU
Never has somebody said so much and said nothing at all. Freaking wordsmith.

FWIW, I recall a football player from the DoD (practice squad) and he told me the standard was something (if memory serves me correct) called 8, 8 and 8's. Which was something as follows: 800 yds of up/downs, 80 times up and down the stadium and 80 laps around the athletic complex. TP, chime in if you are familiar and correct as needed. tia

That's probably 8 times around the athletic complex. I would think that it's well over 1/4 of a mile around it - even at 1/4 mile that would be like 20 miles if you ran around it 80 times.

My favorite quote from Eric Childs

Quote
They are hard on you, but they are going to be hard on you

“Nobody plays harder than Kansas State.  Bilas said that to me in person,” Martin said. Now, does that mean that I’m happy every day?  No, because it’s our job to continue to get those guys to continue to grow.”

    Overkill. It works.
Amazing that anyone bothers with these pressers anymore.  EVERYONE knows what Bill is going to say before he even says it.  Nothing against Snyder at all but...what's the point?

Yeah this is really getting to be ridiculous. Honestly, OB could run for president of the world with the way he talks, he dodges things as good or better than any politician than I've ever heard.

With that said... The fact that he recognizes (and is willing to relay the info) that the team sucks is at least a huge start. For him to come out and say that things have been challenging seems to fans like things are totally hopeless; but in fact it's the opposite. Basically what you're hearing from the coach and the players both is that they are trying to dig themselves out of a hole. Do you think RP would have said at this same presser how much the team was struggling? Hell no. Prince would have had us all drinking the kool-aid right now, and everybody would have at least half-heartedly hoped that what he was saying about "the experience of the juco players" and "learning from last year's mistakes" was true. So although I almost wish RP was still our coach (so we could start this whole thing over and actually make a legit hire next year), I do believe OB is making a difference.

Now... We all have to come to the realization that pretty much every coach in the conference is nearly as good as him or better, and that they have vastly superior athletes and will not hesitate to "coach 'em up" as well. We're gonna lose. Bad. But what the hell. EMAW anyways.

While I don't think OB is ever going to win more than 7 or 8 games in any given year . . . I'll take this over, "we want to be a run and hit team".

"Things are going well and we are progressing nicely. We've seen some great gains from our Junior College transfers." R Prince jackass

"We are making gradual progress but the going is slow. We have some needs to fill and we are just trying to get better everyday." OB

I prefer OB style.

Maybe Old Ballz should focus on just getting a punter on the field.  You know, improvement every day.
