Let's open up a dialogue about this... Besides an award-winning performance by Rourke and nudity by Tomei, what am I missing? I can't decide whether to rent it or just take my chances and go straight for the purchase...

It was good, but I wouldn't buy it.  I'd never watch the entire movie again...kind of a downer, but good.

Yeah.  I saw it at the theater, and was really glad that I went, but I'm not sure I'd want to watch it again anytime soon.

I liked the duplicity better. The fact that wrestlers and strippers both whore their bodies out there for entertainment...and in the end you are left empty after the crowd dies down. The fake facade that creates a barrier between who others think you are and who you are.

Jesus man.  That was a bit more deep than I read into either movie.  I just enjoyed "Leaving Las Vegas" more than "The Wrestler."   (Not saying that you are wrong for how you read into them.)
