I don't know what is better...the Jim Wooldridge reference sited by ku fans or the FACT that Mangino IS Wooldridge...well, Wooldridge but w/ NCAA violations and w/ out class.

Look at the winning pct of ku FB and KSU MBB shortly before both arrived. VERY similar.

The season before Wooldridge arrived KSU was 9-19 overall and 2-14 in conference play.

The season before Mangino arrived ku was 3-8 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Hmmm... 1-7 and 2-14...pct equal. How 'bout that?

Wooldridge, first 4 years of conference play...
year 1: 4-12
year 2: 6-10
year 3: 4-12
year 4: 6-10
Total: 20-44 (.3125 pct)

Mangino first 4 years of conference play..
year 1: 0-8 (ouch!!)
year 2: 3-5 (hmm = 6-10 pct)
year 3: 2-6 (hmmm = 4-12 pct)
year 4: 3-5 (hmm = 3-5 pct)
Total: 8-24 (.250 pct)

Interesting how that works isn't it?

But ku fans protest...."but we're more competitive".

Okay, Wooldridge, like Mangino, increased the talent level in our program and became a LOT more competitive. Competitive but not beating the conference's top teams. So far Mangino has yet to defeat a conferece foe that finished w/ a record above .500 in conference play. Wooldridge would beat Texas at home several times, lose to OU in nail biter games decided by a point or two, and took what before Wooly arrived would be a 40 pt. woodshed loss to ku to games decided in the final 5 minutes of play.

Competitive, yes, but neither get it done vs. the better teams.

But, but, but Mangino went to post-season play and Wooldridge didn't?

Right, mediocrity is rewarded in CFB. A 3-5 team can go bowling provided they beat up a few 1AA schools and get to 6 wins....HALF of the CFB teams play in bowls as a result. There are 300-plus in MBB and only 1/3 will play in post-season...and forget the NCAA tournament if you go the equivalent to 3-5 which is 6-10.

And there you have it. To this point in his career Mangino has done nothing Wooldridge didn't accomplish.

The only difference is that Mangino is pathetically worshiped by ku fans for his mediocrity and NCAA violations are ignored provided he can bring home that 2-6 and 3-5 conference season. Oh, and don't forget the class he shows in getting kicked out of high school games.

KSU fans loved Wooldridge because he's a good man and didn't bring NCAA violations on the program(like fat boy) but he wasn't getting it done. But he was never worshiped like somebody in this state is now.


Yep, Mangino does't possess the integrity of Wooldridge but he's certainly on par w/ him as a coach. The numbers prove it...facts do not lie.

The only difference is that Snyder is pathetically worshiped by KSU fans to this day when he obviously should have been fired like ku should fire Mangino.

KSU had lost 30 of its previous 31 games when Snyder took over at KSU.   

In the 10 years prior to Snyder KSU was 27-92-3 .226

In the 10 years prior to Mangino ku was 59-65  .475

In the 5 years prior to Snyder KSU was 7-47 .129

In the 5 years prior to Mangino ku was 21-35 .375
