The coaches are not the problem; sure, the play calls can improve. But I believe these guys can do it.

The answer is the SYSTEM we're in (and I'm talking defense here). This offense can make plays, and if we can get the run going in the final games and into next year, I'm fine with it. BUT WHY DID WE GO 3-4?! When your 2 best players on the defensive side of the ball are defensive ends who put up great numbers in '06, why would you move one to linebacker and not only hurt their individual numbers, but the chemistry and make-up the entire defense to begin with? We have no pressure because the opponents don't have to worry about the ends- hell they only have to worry about 3 players period. We have linebackers who are great for a 4-3, but when it comes to coverage, it's not their specialty. Then there's the secondary- most importantly people like Watts, who in a 4-3 just had to worry about that 1 guy running deep. However in this Tibesar design, he's got to cover deep and everything the LB's can't pick up.
Flat out, I said it early in the season, you need ATHLETES to run a 3-4. Freakishly big and fast athletes. We have the perfect players for a great 4-3....so can we go back please while we still have some guys to do it?

The players aren't there.  Our O line is bad and isn't talented.  Who on our O line would start at ku or Missouri?  Right now, those are the two measuring sticks for the Big 12 north.

None of them would.

That's why I am very concerned about Prince being in charge of the program, as a former OC he should know how important these positions are.

It's not the system, well it could be, but our front 4 get just as horrible of a pass rush as our front 3 do.

    The "other" KSU
Well, that explains the Line... what is the reason for the crappy play for the DBs and Safetys?

Balkcom and Crews I guess with Abana working in the rotation.  Doesn't really matter if you're the 3-4 or the 4-3 there is no good answers in the d-line right now.  Prince needs to sign 3 jc interior lineman.  Try to sign the best 3 you can find but even if you strike out on your top guys keep going down the list until you have 3 warm bodies over 290 pounds.  We've been too selective in our d-line recruiting we seem to only offer a few most of them highly rated guys we never had a realistic shot at.

This is what worries people about a rook  coach.

What a contradictory post.  Who do you think put the SYSTEM in place, who recruits the players, who teaches them in practice.

That's true. I guess my point was more that we did well last year with a lot of the same players and coaches, we just had a different system then. It bothers me, because take away the stupid 3-4 and I think we'd be as good, probably better, than last year.

We didn't really do "well" last year.  We beat Texas, lost to ku, Baylor and got stomped in our bowl game.  We were very mediocre last year and if the trend of the last couple games continues we will drop below mediocre.
