Hello to Ben, Christopher and anyone else considering e-mailing me,
Sports editors are no dummies (OK, debatable). We get one e-mail from a fan on a particular subject and it's an occurrence. Two is a trend. So after Chris' e-mail, I logged on and logged in and found this thread.
Thanks to J-Mart for encouraging e-mails to me. There's nothing I love more than taking a break from coding up the Titans-Texans box score than to explain our coverage. (JM, get some sleep, your boys are money tonight.)
I, too, have marveled at the Oklahoman website the past few years. It's as tough to navigate as an I-35 in downtown OKC, but the resources they put into it are remarkable.
And that's the difference between us and them now. Resources. They got 'em, we don't. I want our site to be as varied as theirs, and I think we'll get there. But the Oklahoman is far ahead of us in technology and doing something we it. We debuted our high school sports website, VarsityKansas.com, in September. And while I've never given birth, I can only imagine it was something like getting that site started.
What J-Mart won't tell you is that he's the first K-State beat writer with a blog. He's breaking a ton of information on it, too. I'm betting it's must-reading for most K-State fans. Our paper's emphasis in Sports right now is the high school site, blogs and photo slideshows. We'll get there with the video. But it's going to take some time.
Hope that answers some questions. I'll check in after deadline tonight to see if there are others.
Kirk
