Better than average article for Bisel. If Prince actually does have such a practice, I would like to see it done in Wichita. However, I am not familiar with that area, are their any decent areas for such an event?

Prince hoping to reward K-State fans
K-State may move one practice to an off-campus location in August

Kansas State's football team will start the season Sept. 1 with a prime-time, nationally televised tussle against perennial power Auburn.

But that might not be the Wildcats' first road show.

Jenny Kane / The Capital-Journal

Kansas State football coach Ron Prince, left, teaming with Scott Gales at Shawnee Country Club, contemplates moving a Wildcat practice off-campus in August.

CATBACKER CHIP SHOTS

Football coach Ron Prince on LB/DE Ian Campbell: "I think if anybody can handle (preseason accolades), he can. Guys like Jordy Nelson and Ian Campbell, those guys are terrific. They're modest, they're humble people, they understand what this is about. I think he's right up there with the nation's best. I think his statistics would say so. But I think he's one of the best kids in America. I think all the things that come to him, he'll take 'em in stride just like he has everything else."

Basketball assistant Brad Underwood on lofty expectations: "I think expectations should be high. I think they also have to be tempered a little bit from the standpoint that we're an awfully young team. Yet, you look at David Hoskins, Clent Stewart, Blake Young, Luis Colon, those four guys played a lot of minutes. We're going to lean on those guys heavily for experience and leadership. And arguably Mike (Beasley) is going to be the best player in the country. You throw a talent like Mike into that mix — that's not to say the other guys aren't very capable and going to play a lot of minutes also — it's very exciting."

Senior guard Blake Young on freshman Dominique Sutton: "You all don't talk about him much, but he's the most impressive to me right now. He's strong, he can finish, he can shoot it, he's real athletic. He's going to be a shock."

During an appearance Thursday at the annual Kaw Valley Catbackers golf tournament at Shawnee Country Club, coach Ron Prince said K-State is tossing around the idea of moving one August practice to an off-campus location and opening it to the public.

"We're considering that," Prince said, adding that an official announcement could come soon. "I don't want to be premature and ruin the delivery that everyone wants to pay to it. We're just working through all the logistics of it."

Prince didn't specify where the workout would take place, but rest assured, the idea of a road appearance will be well received by the Catbacker types who teed it up with the second-year coach.

Which is exactly the point.

"I look at it as a thank you to the fans," Prince said. "They're so good to us."

Still, Prince admitted that no practice — road or otherwise — will simulate the adversity K-State will encounter at Auburn, the Wildcats' highest-profile debut opponent since Southern California in 2001.

The Tigers finished 11-2 last season and were ranked No. 9 in the final Associated Press poll. They capped the campaign with a 17-14 victory against Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl.

Throw in the fact that Auburn plays at tradition-rich Jordan-Hare Stadium, which seats more than 87,000, and the Wildcats are certain to have their hands full while appearing before an ESPN audience.

Prince wouldn't want it any other way.

"It's a great environment for college football," he said. "It's exactly the kind of game we need with this young team to see where we are. And I think it's a great chance for us to go on national television and show our brand.

"We have (the players') attention with the opponent, that's for sure. We have the attention of the fan base with the opponent. Hopefully, we'll do enough in the game to have the opponent's attention."

The Wildcats will report for fall drills Aug. 1, and the first practice is Aug. 3. With less than a month to prepare for the Tigers, Prince said the anticipated off-campus practice may be one of the few opportunities fans have to witness the team before the start of the season.

"We are going to have fewer open practices, and that's something that's really important to me, is having open practices for our fans," he said. "We're just not going to be able to have as many with this kind of opponent early."

K-State finished 7-5 last year following a loss to Rutgers in the Texas Bowl, but as is the case with any new season, concerns abound. Chief among them is the offensive line, which at times struggled to protect quarterback Josh Freeman.

"Building enough really good players around (Freeman and backup Carson Coffman), particularly at the wide receiver position and on the offensive line, that's been our main focus in the offseason," Prince said. "I hope we've done enough from a personnel standpoint to answer that. Now we'll just see if we've done enough from a coaching standpoint."

Prince believes they have. With Freeman joined by a host of other returning starters — including receiver Jordy Nelson, running backs James Johnson and Leon Patton, and standout defenders Ian Campbell, Marcus Watts and Rob Jackson — optimism is soaring.

"I don't know that I've ever been more excited about a season in my coaching career," Prince said. "I like the kids we're doing it with; I like the schedule; I like the coaches I'm doing it with. I'm trying to avoid, in the words of Alan Greenspan, irrational exuberance."

NOTE — Prince dismissed rumors that have surfaced concerning the status of Patton, the freshman back who missed the spring game with an injury. "Every kid's got his own individual plan, and he's doing well," Prince said.

In Olathe...

http://www.kansascity.com/news/breaking_news/story/170425.html

And Richman is the first to relay the Press Release.  Color me surprised.

More that wasn't included in Richman's notebook.

Quote
The idea for K-State to hold an open practice at CBAC grew out of the University’s partnership with the City of Olathe to build a bioscience research center just west of the sports complex. Kansas State University president Dr. Jon Wefald said he was thrilled with the continuing evolution of the partnership between K-State and the City of Olathe.

Thats pretty cool that they are doing that. It would be great if they would keep this going and start a tradition out of it. I wouldn't mind seeing it in go through, Olathe, Wichita, Hays and maybe some other place, and making an annual rotation out of it.

I like it, but would be interested what some of the players think.

Also, Prince needs to call Butler and explain why Wichita wasn't offered.  Perhaps if he kisses his ring it can help smooth things over.  I really hope Butler has singed off on this.

Maybe we should have the practice on USC's field.  Butler seems to like that.

Prince should take my advice about the rotation. He should go ahead and release that they will be practicing next year in Wichita. Brown will hear the news, and we can correlate the reason behind holding Wichita back a year- to let A. Brown practice back home with his teammates.

Hey, Butler is the GATEKEEPER to 50 Wichita kids better than anyone we've ever signed.  Do you know what that means?  How do you think we ever recruited Michael Bishop, Darren Sproles, Josh Freeman, Mark Simoneau, Ben Leber, Josh Buhl, etc.?  We greased the gatekeeper, that's how.

If you don't think keeping Butler whistling the Wabash out his butt is the single most important thing to KSU football then you just need to find your way back over to Rivals.

Seriously, face reality.  Butler = KSU football.

Look at the dates.  That was before Prince stabbed Butler in the back with this practice in Olathe.

Butler is the GATEKEEPER to all the talent that matters, and we're telling him that Olathe has priority?  What the heck does Olathe offer that Butler can't trump?!?!?

First Prince disses Butler by not showing at the camp (sending an assistant?!?!?), then he takes shots at him at a Catbacker event, now he tells him to go get in line behind Olathe of all places.

Prince is driving this program into the ground with this kind of behavior.  If he can't win at least 8 games this year it's obvious the team isn't improving.  If he doesn't have 6 wins by the end of October he should be booted right out of the state.

Whatever.  You just don't want to hear anything that disrupts your rosy little picture of Ron Prince leading the Cats across the rubicon and into Wichita legend.

Did you actually read that comment from the Catbacker event?  Programs have collapsed on less than that.  How else do you explain OU after Switzer?  That kind of comment can take YEARS to move beyond.  Our only hope is that Butler haves enough success to leave the state ASAP, because after a comment like that, we're never going to sign a decent recruit again.

We'd be better off with the entire team coming down with Rickets this summer than Ron Prince continuing to burn bridges in Wichita.  Sorry if you don't want to hear that, maybe you'd be more comfortable running back to Fitz in la-la land.
