I have no clue who I would pick.  I thought maybe Watts since he is a great player and leader.  I don't think Campbell is as good as his numbers were.  Jackson is a difference maker but being the MVP from the DE spot is hard since teams can really scheme against him although I would argue he is the best player on the defense.

I think Smoke will be MVP.

    Hey, basketball!!!
I'm hoping Josh Moore, we all know that he has the talent but that would also mean that in conference play he shut down the likes of Bowman, Sweed, & Blythe.

Returning guys you could make an argument for:

Jackson
Campbell
Watts

New guys you could make an argument for:

Patterson
Chandler
Abana

I hope it is some one we are not expecting because we all know watts, campbell, and jackson are good so if some one else steps up and is better than those three or D would be pretty tough with a number of playmakers.  So im going to go with who i hope it will be instead of who it probably will be, I pick Abana because thae d-tackle spot is supposed to be weak for us, so if we have jackson in the rotation already and abana steps up it could be one of our strong spots.

If Patterson plays anywhere close to his potential it will be him, by a mile.

im gonna have to agree with the majority of you. if SMOKE comes through, it's him- no questions. From what I've seen in the opening practices during the spring, I'm not liking Ian in this 3-4 system, and I think you'll see his numbers fall a bit. Reggie Walker and maybe Justin Roland could be bigger than most give them credit for. And you have to factor in a healthy Watts. Can I get some love for Josh Moore???

1) Chris "Smoke" Patterson
2) Marcus Watts
3) Reggie Walker

Rob Jackson or Ian Campbell.  I don't know what everone's problem with Ian is.  I've watched the UT game a few times and he is always there on every single fumble either recovering, or knocking it loose.  And that is a quality football team.

First off, that was in the 4-3 D, the best scheme for Ian. The problem with him this year, is the 3-4 is set up for some fast athletes. Watch SEC football, and that should show you the type of players it takes to run a successful 3-4. That said, I'm not sure if it's a great move for us period, let alone Ian. Whenever Patton or Johnson hit the outside on a run in practice, they flew by Campbell. I'm not saying he wont have a good year, I just wouldn't say he'll be our best on D this season.

If Abana plays anywhere near his "look" it could be him.

you do realize that we are running a different defense this year right???  No problem with Ian  - I just think with his new spot OLB, he won't get to the QB as much as Jackson will.  Jackson is just a monster.
