You just explained it perfectly with your statement.  Let me add this, though.  How many college football observers would have Roberson on their all time top twenty quarterbacks list?  Outside of KSU fans, they answer may very well be none.

The answer is none, but I think he is the best quarterback of all-time at any level and he won us our Big 12 Championship, so I don't think any of these apply:flameouts, disappointments, defectors, "never lived up to the hype," and just plain SUCKED.

Sure his "actions" before the Fiesta Bowl truly felt like I had been stabbed in the heart and we lost the game because of it, but I have forgiven him and love him.

I still believe that had he not gotten hurt we would have finished the season with at most 1 loss and he would have been a heisman finalist.

If Ell doesn't &@#% up before the Fiesta Bowl, we win the game, and people's perspective on him change drastically.

He doesn't live up to your (and other KSU fan) hype - the 'best I've ever seen' kind of hype.  Doesn't it bother you that your belief is so dramatically different from nearly everyone else's?  How are you okay with that?  This isn't simply a matter of taste, right?

Now coming in at QB...Cody Lee Smith.

Come on... you know he had a jacked up stomach.  Dont' forget... he did have one of the hottest girlfriends to every grace this campus.  We worked together at Chance and when her and Sara (Nyle Wiren's girl) were in the outback that was the hottest duo in history in Aggieville.

MJ,

WTF?  Why are you letting Stunner get to you?  You know he was 1 when Bill Snyder was hired and I'll guarantee he can't name the coach that proceeded him without looking it up.

No it doesn't bother me.  His senior season was screwed up by injuries and without them we probably would have been undefeated going into the Championship game and he would have been a frontrunner for the Heisman, so that wouldn't have been disappointing. I don't blame him for getting hurt.

Also, in a way it probably is a matter of taste.  He is mainly the best because he is the best running quarterback of all time and had maybe the strongest arm I have ever seen, and in my mind that is what a quarterback should be like.

I'll take Ell Roberson over Peyton Manning in a heartbeat.

I'll agree that ER III was one hell of a QB, but Bishop did have a stronger arm.

for punter on the All-WTF team, i nominate Rick Gerla from Blinn. kid had a free ride for 2 years and never punted it over 40 yards in practice, usually it was in the low 30s/high 20s.

Bishop's arm was legendary, but I don't think I ever saw Ell throw it as hard or as far as he could. He could flick it 60 yards, effortlessly.
